If you're planning on springs for the Vortecs (machined? Beehive?), you can run a GM hot cam and have somewhere in the neighborhood of 400hp, but it's a roller so it'll be some $$$. You can get a Comp XE268H (12-242-2) for less and push about 375hp with a 750, smaller carb will probably be slightly less.

Plans are changing. My buddy was looking over the motor, and found a scratch in the crank, and we have agreed it woud be cheaper to find a 350, either olds or chevy with a good crank and cam, rather than buying those parts new. The quest begins.....

Just a good reason to go ahead and build a 383.

Haven't updated in a whilw so here goes....

We found an olds 355 and picked it up for $100. The rotating assembly is brand new (rebuilt), but other than that its a bare block. So I've been gathering parts for a while now. water pump, intake, flywheel, gaskets, rockers, pushrods, pulleys, brackets, fan, bolts, timing chain, timing chain cover, engine paint, harmonic balancer, motor mounts  you get the idea  . Right now I just need a carbuerator, distributor, frame mounts and other misc. small stuff.

I have a dist. located at the junkyard but it didn't want to come out, I'll try soaking it with penrtrating oil or gas.

I found a '77 olds with a 260, non A/C, I'm using pulleys and brackets from that. Obviously I'm not going to run A/C. Theres a regal at the junkyard with a nice heater box, I'll use that. I just have to figure out how to remove the dash and get all the ducts.

I also found a double hump crossmember at the junkyard, with the g-body cars, but not in one. I'll have to compare it with my car to see if it has the right transmission mount and will bolt up.

When this is all said and done, I will be running a '73-'74 oldsmobile 355, no computer controlled stuff, no A/C, headers, and true dual exhaust.

It has a Th350 now, so I'll just leave it in there.

I picked up a dual hump X-member today, but I don't know if it will fit or not. Total length is 52 1/2" overall and 51 1/8 from center of holes on either side. If anyone knows if it will work please let me know. transmission mount is correct I know that.

Good news!!! Got the car inspected, insured and registered today. I drove it to go pick up my check today 😀 . It's such an awesome feeling to finally drive the thing.

One thing though.... the 3.8 knocks now  Oh well, I'll just have to live with being obnoxious for a little bit until we start the swap.

I stopped by a car audio place too, and as I was leaving 3 kids my age were leaving too. Getting into their light blue prius, the one kid heard my car as I started it up, he said to his buddies "that things a piece of sh*t." I said "well, at least its not a baby blue prius." He just looked away, got into the prius, and hummed away
