Here's a schweet update for you guys, hope you like 8)
We started on it today at 3 or 4 ish, and we stopped around 7ish.

For those of you who don't know... 73/4 oldsmobile 355, all new rotating assembly (bought for $100). Replacing the 3.8 in my '83 cutlass.

Take a look at the valve covers that came with the engine. I've never seen any that had an oldsmobile script stamped in them. Does anyone know what they are out of?

Yea.. 😀 Don't go too mild. Have the bowls blended to match new larger valves. A motor that breaths well usually runs well and even better than expected. Cheaper now than tearing it back apart later. Mark my words I have been around hot rodding a long time. :lol:
A while back saved a Cutty in place of some owed money. It was brown & bondo with miss matched wheels missing trim rust etc. Driveing it one day some young guy made a comment like that. I turned around looked at them and their little car and said at least I'm not driveing my sisters car. They were speachless I then jumped in my Cutty fired er up to the sweat throaty sound of a V8. BTW that was a 350 "rocket" with headers. 8)

That motor will look awesome with a nice coat of gold paint on it!

I need a fuel & oil pump, starter, and some misc. bolts and such then it will all be there except the vacuum stuff and sensors.
Do you think I could save some $$ and just get a starter from the junkyard? Is there any way to test them?

255/60 for the rear is exactly what I was going to suggest. That's what I run on the rear of my 442. No clearance issues and it fills the wheelwell nicely.
For you, I'd take $40 for the intake plus shipping. Shoot me a PM if you want it.
There are ways to bench test them, but I can't remember the procedure at the moment. I've always been leary of junkyard starters and such, but that may just be me. I'd rather buy a new/rebuilt one that has a warranty incase it fails. Buy one for a 307 so it won't be the huge version that they had in the 60's and 70's. Give them the starter from the 3.8 for your core charge. They don't give a sh*t if it's the right one, just as long as they get something that resembles a starter back.

I think I'll just use the cast iron for now. If I get better heads for it down the road, I'll probably buy it off you.
I asked the guy at the yard how to test them, and he said we'll just hook it up to a battery... I guess that will tell if it works at all and how the bearings are.
I also got these for free as well as all of the bolts and stuff I needed. Are they the correct ones?
