You can have plenty of power for a street car with that TBI and better fuel economy along with it  I would grab that thing up ... swap the camshaft out ... possibly have the heads ported on a bit ... and have a performance chip or flash (which ever they do for the TBI computers) and have a blast with that big block 8)

I believe you can get relatively cheap aftermarket aluminum heads that may also help raise your compression to take advantage of a cam upgrade. If you pick it up for that price and don't do anything with it you can always get that little bit of money back out of it.

I've kicked around the idea of a TBI 454 in the past. I think it would make for a cool reliable cruiser, especially at that price.
As with all other things, you'd have to weigh the cost vs benefit. You could get those hp & tq numbers out of a small block, headers will cost less, less weight, no spring change needed up front, etc. BBC parts are going to cost more if you want more power. Just a few things to consider anyway. The big block gets the cool factor though.

i wanted a little bit more than a daily driver more of a weekend warrior haha what is a good 454 to build a good powerhouse off of and pump some nitrous through

that is all true i had a 83 mali wag that i did the sbc in it was fun to drive nd on my wallet and this wagon i have now is stick and i never did a bbc so i thought id do a 454 t56 i was gona do ls1 but so many people around my way bein stuffing ls1s in everything rearwheel drive

It sounds like you need to start from scratch and build a purpose built engine. This is going to cost you an arm and a leg for a BBC. I really think your underestimating the performance in a gbody with a mild big block. If you want 13's this engine will do it for you providing you do what ritter said.

13s arent that bad lol i think i might just grab it since its a good price and clean em up a bit nd take it from there what generation are those blocks considered .................

thats a 4th (IV) gen big block....4th gen has a long span..from the 1960's all the way to 1990. Then they introduced the 5th and 6th gen big blocks. I would get it and honestly keep it throttle body injection or whatever it has...can you say easy start up every time...a carbed big block+cold weather= pain in the *ss to start...plus better fuel mileage. and if you can get the entire wireing harness to, your golden. I know you probably want a carb but there a lot of people out there that would kill for the set up you have the chance to get..and for 400 bucks is a steal...like candy from a baby steal

It is good to pick up either way if you have the cash. Thats a great price for a running taken care of big block chevy. Personally I would keep the throttle body injection if it is feasible. I am not sure what generation they are but I know most if not all parts are compatible with older 454's.
