If that's a vortec motor that's what I'm looking for.
Thanks
Just fyi....the vortec motor opie posted a pic of is the 87-95 style. If you have a 99 vortec its probably the LS style. If so, those all came with auto trans in the yukons and wouldn't have the ball stud provision.

HTH

The engine I have was supposed to have came out of a '99 Yukon.

The Vortec heads came out in '96 on GM trucks.

The name Vortec was used before then but the heads that everyone refers to as Vortec and flow so well came out in '96.

Ding ding ding....after doing a quick search i just read that, thanks for the correction. When i was at the yard the other day LS hunting i cane across several vans that were 98-99ish that had the tbi vortecs in them.

The L31 5.7L Vortec was made from 1996 to 2002. After 1998 they were mostly in HD trucks and Vans.
$2300.00 (Canadian) for a rebuilt crate engine from the dealer with 3yr warranty is the best part. The heads flow great, factory roller cam and you can get it in a 4 bolt main.
They easily make over 300hp 350trq with better intake and exhaust. Makes them work great as a stock engine. I'm not looking for a race engine but just a good stock reliable piece.
All I'm changing is the rocker arms to comp cams 1.6 roller tip.

You should look at the current Super Chevy, they snagged one from a junkyard and added a cam, with carb intake and a dizzy, it was like 30+ horse...with a 268 cam.

Yeah Tahoe's and suburbans still had the old style vortec in 99

Make your car better and put in a 5 or 6 speed.
The iron L31 engines have the boss.
That's too much shifting for me!
Thanks but I think the 3 spd will be just perfect for what I want this car to do. Plus its already there.
With 2.73's in the rear it'll cruise 65mph @ 2200rpm, 75@ 2500, 95@3200 And if it ever sees 5000rpm in 3rd I'll be in trouble @ 150mph!
The 3 spd's 1st gear ratio is 3.50:1 so it's like having a 3.73 and a TH350
It'll have plenty of torque to pull it's self through the big transmission gear ratio spread. 3.5-1.89-1:1
