yes there was one in there but im probably gonna end up scrapping it and get a block from something else and build it from scratch so I know what im getting into.So somebody already installed a 350 in your Monte?

im wasn't really planning on getting a crate motor. Id rather go part by part. For what machine shop costs are these days plus finding a good one you would be better off starting with at the very least a crate short block and build from there.
So what is your budget for the engine to reach your goal of 500 RWHP?im wasn't really planning on getting a crate motor. Id rather go part by part.
if we are talking just the motor than i was thinking 5-6 grandSo what is your budget for the engine to reach your goal of 500 RWHP?
im definitely gonna stick with a sbc 350 and will end up stroking it to a 383 tbh. a 383 crate motor for 2 grand isnt bad at all. just gotta then figure out what parts work with it. also gotta figure out the correct size cam.Stroker kits $1000 or less, good heads $2000 or less, retro roller cam $500, intake an carb $1000, machine shop???
Or do the popular thing an ls it. Don't get into a rush, watch the classifieds for a 383sbc or bigger, might find a cheap one as the season is just about over.

what could i do to the factory block and 5-6 grand? how how far would that get me then.600hp in a street motor on 93 octane.
Scrap your factory block plan. Here's the cheapest route I know of - Dart SHP block 4.125 bore, forget the 383 and jump to a 414-421 3.875 stroke. It will fit with minor clearancing of the oil pan rail. Forged pistons with an 18cc dish - JE preferred. Forged rods, will need the best H Beam you can find or I beams and clearance the cam. Heads - AFR or Profiler with no less than 210CC runner. Solid roller cam with no less than 245/250 intake/exhaust duration. 1 3/4" long tube headers. All of the remaining goodies - $8-10K.
Your budget begs for forced induction. Your current motor with the ring gaps opened up, fresh bearing and oil pump and a 76/65 or 78/75 T4 Chinesium turbo and you'll make 500whp look slow and you'll be on your budget. A FT cam swap to a Comp XE268 will get it done.
