So I did a little searching on here about rearend widths. I have talked to a guy who has what he says is a 3.08 GEAR 1960s CHEVY 10 BOLT REAREND 57 INCHES WIDE , CHEVELLE, MALIBU.......this should be an 8.2, correct? He says measurement is from backing plate to backing plate......if I have read up correctly, this should work well in my 87 right? Even better since I am having to use the 2" spacers because of the 6.5" backspace on my wheels?

Spring perches have been cut off, but it isn't that much problem to fix that......if it is an early intermediate I think it will fit with stock arms? But if the later 60's I would have to do some more fab?

Well I bought what I believe to be an 8.2 rear, from a Chevelle.....have to check on which series it came from (64-67, or 68-72)....outside of brake hub to outside of brake hub is 63", inside axle flange to axle flange it is 57.5". Hopefully this weekend I can go out and write the numbers down to check them, and crack it open to doublecheck the 3.08:1 ratio that it was advertised. Spring perches have already been removed. The ribbed cover means a "C" style IIRC? C-clipped axles?
Guess it will require some fabbing, and that's fine, as it has got to be better than the 7.5 and 2.56:1 in the Salon now. With it out, I can do some work on it easier, so it will go on the trailer, covered up when I am not working on it.
Scored for $75.....

Thats a good buy for $75!

I have an 8.2 from a 67 chevelle. It has the ears for the upper and the bracket for the lowers and shocks. I think yours came from a leaf car...it came with a 3.08 Eaton posi and I paid 600

I am going to have to check the measurements against what years had which, and then see what I am going to have to fab up.....if I can't do it the way it needs to be done with the mounts and spring perches, I'll take it to work and get it done. We have everything there in the fab shop to do most anything including any materials and nuclear-certified welders....... 😀
