Could the governor be bad/stuck causing it to need more rpm? It drives around normally, but needs more throttle to get into gear.

I have no idea. I got it from a guy, decent guy, a year ish ago. Gave it a guarantee and gave me a pan gasket, filter, and a few kickdown cables. And the converter for $125 bucks. I've had it since October of 2016. The trans itself has gotta be from the 70s at least.

You got alot for $125 and it lasted a year. I would have used that transmission gently while I was building another cause I would not expect it to last.

That's what's great about TH350s. They're cheap to buy and cheap (and easy) to build.

I should count myself lucky now that I see it. A $125 40 year old transmission I got in a guys barn (full waist high with TH350s and TH400, mad at myself for forgetting his info), lasted through my shenanigans. It had a good run, survived many a burnout/donut. And some dukes stuff. Oddly enough, I'm never angry when my car breaks, just irritated. I expect stuff to happen, but not just out of the blue, especially when it showed NO signs of slipping or popping out of gear ever. The other TH350 I had towards the end would always pop out of gear at a stop, slipped to high heaven, and eventually 1-3rd just went AWOL. Reverse worked. Know what that means? Reverse burnouts. Anyway, thanks for all the input guys. I'm gonna try and fiddle with what I can, check the contents of the pan, the condition of the filter (which only has 4,000 miles on it by the way), and if it looks grim, well there's nothing I can do. I might as well try and rebuild it rather than end up plowing through 7 Th350s before I find one that sticks around.

As said cheap and not super durable completely stock. I have seen them faul behind completely stock mid 70's Olds 350's. One only had 126,000 miles. My current TH350 has a slow reverse, going 424ci, so TH400 will be next. Build it with the better/extra clutches and wide bushings. Good time to upgrade the converter as well.

wanna bet??.....:D

I'm so god damn mad. The Transmission in my Regal took a dump for no reason. It worked perfectly fine with the other engine, worked perfectly fine with this one, I go to move it out of the driveway, NOTHING. Most it did was kind of go into reverse. What the f*ck. It revs then slowly mushy goes slips into gear. Doesn't idle down when in gear either. What the hell. If anyone has a "ran when pulled" short shaft BOP TH350 lying around takin up space, I'd gladly take it off your hands. Otherwise, I'm back to square one. Motherf*cker.

When you had it out did you change the fluid and filter?
