I'd use the same fluid if I were you. Ive watched and caused the demise of a few transmissions after fluid changes. Older ones of course. One day a mentor told me to save the old fluid and just change a filter in a th350 I had slipping and I believe that thing is still on the road. Something about the detergents or something in new atf will destroy seals and soft parts. I'm sure somebody can explain better, as my limited expertise ends after the flywheel.

Is the filter in the pan or is that just the imprint?

New filter, pan gasket, and reshaped pan are on. Out of courtesy for the neighbors, and the fact that it was 10pm by the time I finished, tomorrow will be the test to see if I'm SOL or not.

It works. I mean, it works better than it did. I was wondering, could the torque converter be fried? It's taking more RPM to leave from a stop or at lower rpms than the stall speed (mostly stop or under 15mph), it shifts normally driving around. I wouldn't be surprised if it was to be honest.

If you changed the fluid that was it in thats what broke it

There was no trash in the pan, the fluid is dark, but the transmission is old. The fluid I took out I strained with panty hose (mainly to get the trash out from it sitting open face in the garage overnight) and put back in. I added a quart of new, to replace what is on the ground. I ended up with 7 quarts of old fluid (again, put back in) and a quart of new.

I mean, all the signs of a bad trans are also the signs of a bad TC. Slipping, poor shifting, weird shifting, etc.

Never change the fluid, drop the pan change the filter put old fluid back in and top off.

If your changing the fluid it's because there is a problem and you "think" new fluid will fix it.

There is the new member that owns a transmission shop PM him maybe he will set you up with something.
