With all the money you plan on wasting on the junk 7.5 rear, you could buy a GN rear and never have a problem.

If you are using this on the street you might not want to use a spool unless you have a death wish.

Another thing is with that saginaw.

If you plan on poping the clutch laying down some rubber or powershifting, that thing it will not last long at all.

If you plan on putting slicks on the car kiss that trans goodbye even faster.

Saginaws are good trannys but not performance trannys.

You could have some fun with it but it doesn't take much to break them.

The spool will put more wear and tear on the rear-end but it'll be fun for a wHile. Pretty much any aftermarket automotive source sells mini spools for the GM 7.5 10bolt. I don't believe a full spool is an option for a 7.5" rear. You can get a mini spool brand new for like $80

Yes the 2 extra splines do make a difference as far as axle strength ... how ever that being said take it from me I @%$# up I thought ahh, for temp use I'll freshen up my 7.5 I got the aubern posi really cheap and then picked up a set of 3.73 gears hey not bad $60 -posi $180 - gears like $300 fer axles i dont remember .... Then set it up ( I dont have the tools so I paid a friend ) well new parts lets put in new bearings and seals , then a shim kit . All in all I have about $900 dollars into it and a bad U-joint and drive shaft ate the pinion bearings :blam: lots of work to change pinion bearings everything has to come apart. The jist is for $$$$ spent and time put in I was almost half way to a 9" bolt in and I wouldn't have to worry how long will it last.
Find a beafier rear spend the money there.... Dont waste your time
P.S. mine is still a street car and still has the limp **** 305.

With 4:10 gears and on a budget you will blow just about everything up.

Save your money and do it right

I have said it before and it will probably get attacked again, I have personally seen a built 7.5" with a factory 4th Gen posi unit run 12's with the front left coming off the ground a few inches. And when we removed it from that Monte it went into an '84 Cutlass with a 500+ ft.lbs torque Oldsmobile 455 and was just fine. It is currently in a small block Malibu drag car, again, doing just fine.

I won't attack you...I know of plenty of circle track cars using the 7.5 rear with the spiders welded up and still using the c-clips. I'm changing my 7.5 out for an 8.2 because auburn posi in the 7.5 has pinion gears that are too small to take much power..so I found me an 8.2 out of a 67 chevelle with a 3.08 posi.
