78 cutlass W-31 build

Try bumping the the timing 4 degrees and run the the vacuum advance off manifold. That might be enough to fix the hot running issue. The trans may need some gaskets and maybe some governor mods. The modulator is hooked up to vacuum?

I think that trans is probably junk remember what I went threw to get it? I'm probably going to finds another one who knows what that guy did to that thing. I doubt I'll be able to enjoy the car this season anyway. Still trying tho

Still don't have it right guys it starts easier and runs better but hit the throttle and bang lean pop gave it more timing and played with the carb all night all I got was more frustrated

It may need the APT adjusted richer. Those late 70's carbs are lean, your builder might have calibrated it slightly lean. This is assuming a proper pump shot.

Inside of the carb under the cup plug, the stand that limits primary metering rod movement. I notched mine and put a thread in plug in place of the cup plug for easy access.

Is the fuel filter clean or new? I had problems similar to that when I had a clogged fuel filter. It didn't want to shift from 2-3 it would just sort of hit a wall and wouldn't accelerate..just an idea

Keep track of where the APT is as it is now so you can return it to it's original position later. Unless you want to buy an AFR gauge.
