78 cutlass W-31 build

I made some more progress! I decided the distributor was still in a tooth off because the vacuum advance was hitting the heater control valve so I moved it now it runs better where it looks right

I also tightened up the power steering belt and put the new alternator belt on. It's not charging but that's not that big of deal. I don't have a working timing light so timing right now is just a best guess I advanced it until it ran good then backed it off until it cranked ok. I did some choke adjustment so it will actually come off fast idle. I then went back and forth with timing the vacuum gauge and the idle screw to try and get some kind of base setting and it seems like it worked. I wanted to make sure I didn't back off the choke to much so I let it cool off. In the meantime I went back to the spray paint on the quarter. Here's a tip for diy people please don't put rattle caned crap all over your car. There's a time and place for that stuff and by all means if your going to prime something, please send it first. The quarter is looking better and I have a plan to temporarily make the hole car look better. Besides blowing it apart and painting it.

If you notice in that image the trunk lid is spray painted also and I cleaned it off from the body line out to the quarter.
After scrubbing with thinner and scraping with a razor I think it looks better than it did but I've got some more to do. Dose anyone sell rear lower quarter patches for these cars yet?
The choke setting worked out good and I took the car for a ride around the shop to see how it is.
Well it has no problem getting out of shape and going around corners sideways now and it's never done that ever. This leads me to believe I've taken a step in the right direction. It goes ok now but it's still not right. If you get on it hard and get back out quick it stalls. And the brakes are horrible. All and all I'm happy with the progress and I'm going to keep pushing forward.

4:30 Friday morning. I'm going in early today so I can pull off the EGR valve. Globex performance is nextdoor to me and there going to CNC me a block off plate. I'm giving the owner my valve and gasket to go off of. The other reason to go in early is yesterday I noticed my car has a flat tire on the right front so I'll be running an air hose out of the shop threw the office and out to the car. lol All I can do is fill it up and see what I see. Probably picked up a screw in the tire because I finally drove it 1/8 mile in the parking lot. No parts came in for the daily so I'm sure you'll get an update on this.

That's what I thought I guess I'll bring my break and Eric's shrinker stretcher to the shop and just go for it. That inverted line around the wheelhouse is going to be tough to make guess I'll get creative. That quarter really bothers me
That is where you being a body man can make it look better than new👍.

I find that working on it now without a deadline I get less done with a better outcome. My only plan at this point is to make it mechanically right. But yes I'm a body man and I am working on it in a body shop. For now the body plan is just clean it up and preserve what's there then run a wheel over it when the time comes I'll probably tackle it one panel at a time the worst first so... Quarter then deckled I plan on filling the chips with catalyzed single stage then clip it and buff it a little at a time. But like I said after starting stopping and driving are all in point.

I gave the EGR to globex performance today hopefully he gets it done tomorrow or Monday. I put air in the right front tire this morning also and it was still up when I left tonight. Don't know what I'm doing tomorrow but I'll see about something.

Glad to see some progress on this one Eric. Glad to see you catch a break on the engine.
