Wow, a 2GC carb. 78' was the last year for those. Very reliable, but couldn't pass emissions.

Seems like I always manage to find the damn things too. My '72 Caprice had one on a 400 sbc. So did my 400 from a '73 Catalina that was in my '80 Regal. They always were good runners though.

It's a really a shame that the 305 didn't have enough power. It was a great running engine.

Now imagine a Chevy 229. Same weak motor minus 2 cylinders. My 81' Malibu had it, with a 3 speed Saginaw, and 2:41 gears. Powerband was between 1500 and 2500 rpm. Redefined the word LAME.

My '79 Malibu had a 2GC on top of it's 267 sbc.
Had to two-foot it at stoplights, but it still ran like a top at 225k miles when I parted it out...

Progress on the GP is lookin good!

Had one of those too in a '79 Malibu with a TH200. That car was the true meaning of grocery getter. It was that coffee creamer yellow with the tan cloth interior that always looked like $hit no matter what. Funny thing is that I've had 2 of those in the same color and the frames were shot on both. That was about 14 years ago too!

That's odd. I thought the 267's usually had the Dualjet. That was another dog of an engine. My dad had an '80 Malibu with one. Was reliable and smooth for what it was though.

As for the GP, I'm trying to pace myself so I don't hit a stopping point while the engine is being built. Besides, it gives me an excuse to drink in the garage for hours on end!

All my 79's had the Dualjet, but GM is known for "testing" new stuff for a model year or two before switching over full tilt. Notice how many 95's had the OBDII system before switching over totally in 96'.

Found a "get me by" engine til the 455 is done and I'm going to pick it up this Sunday. It's a '71 Poncho 350 from a Firebird Formula w/94 heads. Supposed to have been rebuilt with 30K on it and a slightly hotter cam. $150+the stand. At least this lets me reroute things and get my motor mounts situated before I get the 455.

Nice, sounds like a steal. Go for it man!

I'll soon see. Let's just hope it is what he says it is. I already confirmed the casting numbers, but the "rebuild" part is what I doubt. Worst comes to worst I get a free engine stand, some random parts, and I get to do a mock up of my 455 install. I'm not a pessimist but I expect the worst when it comes to hunting for parts.
