you can make a cut from the edge of the two flanges on the control arm to the bushings to remove them and then once you have the new bushings install you just weld the cut line..

I was thinking about cutting the inside of the bearing surface with a sawzall (just enough to weaken it), then just collapsing the outer portion with an air chisel on both ends.

Kind of what this guy is doing except using more efficient tools.

Not knocking your idea but I don't have a welder

This little gem eliminates all that nonsense. It's a cheap Harbor Freight item, but has lasted me years. The good OTC model is $$$ but not much different.

I just cut them in 2 halves with the sawzall while they were in the arms and used a ginormous steel drift & BFH. They came out nice and easy.

I suppose a bearing removal tool would be the correct way to do it. The sad part is that i have one and didn't think about using it. I'll use it to install them though. No caveman BS with new parts.

They also sell some nice spacers that prevent the "ears" from collapsing when removing/installing the bushings. Being a cheap-*ss I just made some by cutting some sections of black iron pipe to fit between the "ears" for support.

Nothing wrong with that! I don't like spending money that I don't need to. That extra money can go on beer instead right?

No, I already have a beer account, fully funded, adjusted for inflation, and not accessible by anyone but me. Money saved is just that, money saved, and like I said, I'm a cheap-*ss.

And they say you can't polish a turd! I know it's not a show quality finish but that's OK. I'm using KBS coating on as many undercarriage & suspension components possible. I don't ever want this thing to rust again....anywhere!
