Vato! I NEED the lower right side lower rocker panel trim right behind the door for my 85!! PM me if another member doesn't pull through..Also G-Body_Vet loving the build on the GP!! Wish i had my 79 still!. I am going to start my 85's build up soon and am NOT looking in to separating the frame from the body but you gotta admit HEAT works great!!

Good looking out bro. Thx but my car is solid. I don't think there's anything I could use from an '81 anyway.

To be honest it hasn't been that bad of a job. The thing that's making it easy for me though is the eng/trans/exhaust & front clip were already removed.

I wasn't thrilled about disconnecting the parking brake from the pedal and brake drums or twisting off a rusted brake line at the rear end, but whatever. It would've needed to be replaced anyway. All I have left to do now is disconnect the lines from the tank, remove the last two body mounts and I'm ready to drop the frame.

I'm just not sure which way I want to go about lifting the body yet. Worst comes to worse, I can lift the rear with a engine hoist from the trunk latch.

The front I'm still undecided. I'm wondering if jacking it up with a shortened 4x4 under the floor pans would work without caving anything in. I'm open to ideas and suggestions!

On another note, since there's a possibility of fuel injection in the future, I priced the tank w/neck, fuel pump, straps, filter and strainer for an '87 4.3 Monte from Rock Auto. Shipped to my door would be 244.28. A local parts store wanted $225 for the same tank alone.

That`s a decent price. Have you priced one for a GN? Are they the same?

The GP is really comming along nicely. I regularly see pictures of people doing restos with the body sitting on wooden sawhorses so I would think a 4x4 under the rockers would lift it fine.

I'm wondering if there's a difference between them internally. Both of them are listed as being 36 1/4" x 24 1/4" x 8 7/8" w/17 gal capacity.

Spectra number for both are:
'87 GN: GM307C $143.79
'87 Monte: GM306C $149.89

The Airtex fuel pumps have different numbers too (I originally looked for Bosch for both but it wasn't listed for the GN).
'87 GN: E3240 $47.79
"87 Monte: E3902 $32.79

Lock rings are the same.

Since I had the rear end out I decided to take it apart since I've never dismantled one. Not nearly as mysterious and painful as I had imagined.

After taking a better look at it ring & pinion I found out it was a 2.29 instead of a 2.14. The "21-48" was mistaken for "21-45" in the stamping.

For my other dilemma now....as most of us are; I am on a budget and want to drive this car eventually. A built 200-4R and stout rear end are going to drive my costs up and delay things. I'm still trying to finish my 455 too. I still have pistons, rods, cam/lifters, bearings and machine work to pay for. For the time being I'm probably going to run a TH350 or 400 and keep the high gears.

In comparison
200R4, 3.42, 26" tire, .67 gear, 70mph = 2073rpms
TH350, 2.29, 26" tire, 1.00 gear, 70mph = 2072rpms

Considering that this isn't a strip car, nor daily driver and there will be ample torque; it doesn't make sense to add another $4k worth of trans & rear end expense right now. I found a 2 series posi carrier some time ago and I might as well use it. Waste of time with a 7.5".....maybe but oh well. If/when it frags I'll just have to step up and spend. I'll clean it up, change the seals & bearings while I'm at it. I'm not planning on hooking & launching with it anyway!

Bah.. I have a friend who ran a 450hp Malibu with a 7.5 at the strip with sticky M/Ts. He ran 40-some 10 second passes before he broke an axle. I'm running a 7.5 with a 3.42 and 700r4 in mine just cuz my buddy gave me a GM posi unit for $50

My calculations came out a bit different than yours though.. (I got 2200 RPM @ 70.4 mph) 25.8" tire, I don't remember what the 700 r4 OD is (.7?)
