Ok now I`m officially jealous! man that block is BEAUTIFUL!!! I wish mine looke that good but I have to be satisfied with just a cleaning and re-ring job.
Dean

Thanks. I really hope it's all worth it in the end. I probably could've gotten away with a re-ring and fresh bearings but I've been wanting to do a full rebuild for a VERY long time. The machinist doing my work sent me an email today with some cam specs he thinks would go well with my set-up. As of now, we're aiming for 9.5 to 1 CR, a TH400 and 3.08's.

Bullet Solid cam: F256/327 In Lobe 228 deg. @ .050, .016 lash
F262/327 Ex Lobe 232 @ .050, .016 lash
106 degree LSA, 47 degrees overlap, .524 net lift

OR F262/327 IN/EX 232 @ .050, .016 lash
106 deg LSA, 50 deg overlap, .524 net lift

His other suggestion is possibly a Lunati hydraulic 60902 or 60903, but on a 106 LSA grind instead.

I'm kinda wondering about everything because I've read the "tried and true" Pontiac formulas and some of this stuff isn't aligned with it too much. Like I said before, nothing is written in stone yet and I'm kicking around the possibility of a roller too. More to come!

That is going to be a great set up but the 7.5 rear end might not like it too much. I have a set of 3.08 gears for the 7.5 if you need them...

What do you want for them? Money is a little tight right now but feel free to shoot me a price so I can make plans. I figure I'll run the the 7.5 until it frags and/or until I can afford a good OD trans and better gears. Do you have any use for 3.23's? I have a nice set of those but I don't want to run a spacer or find a 3 series posi carrier. My stock gears are crappy 2.29's. I'm trying to get the best of both worlds until I can afford a built 200-4R.

$50.00 plus shipping...I'll figure out what it costs to ship and you can pay that and for the $50 whenever you have it. It's just sitting in a rear end now so there no hurry on my end. Since it was set up in a 7.5 the pinion gear should be at the right depth so it a basic plug and play. You should just get a new crush sleeve but I have run used ones and never had a problem as long as you get some resistance when rotating the rear end.

I can't use the 3.23 but if there is any circle tracks close to you that gear may be of use to someone there.

If it was legal for me i would love to do a 455 swap

I'm on board with the 455. I'd love to see it in person some day. Are you the type that would journey to MN to go to Car Craft?
I'm also with you on the power-per-dollar idea. Bragging rights just aren't worth the money. If the power puts you back in the seat, the engine runs the way you want and responds well to the throttle, and does nice smoky burnouts, you win.
I've got a buddy that's into drag racing. He has more $ in his car than I'll have into 2 hot rods, my truck, snowmobiles, and all my tools combined and he still wants more power!

Also, (IMO) a nice wide torque curve is more important than a high power curve

Sounds good to me. I don't need it right away if you're not in a hurry to get rid of it.

Are you kidding? I've been wanting to go to the CC Summer Nationals for years. I either had a job where I worked weekends or didn't have anything worth driving up there. Road trips are one of the main reasons I wanted a built 200-4R so bad. The Power Tour and a Route 66 drive are on my list too.

Sweet, hopefully both cars are finished by July 15th or so, 2012. I bet cold hard cash we're the only 2 78-80 GPs in the whole place.

Another good reason to carefully choose your cam!
(I do practice what I preach.. I had a cam custom ground to 216/216 @ .050 for my 5.3.)

Hey Steve, looks good brother. I just bought an 85 GP that I want to drop a Poncho 350 in with a Tri-Power. I am following this so I can absorb anything that might make my project easier. Keep it up bro, good luck bro.
