I'm no Pontiac expert so I can't really offer any suggestions. Are you on any of the Pontiac forums at all? I'm sure one of the more seasoned guys can help you out. Either that or maybe Shotgun will see this post and chime in since he's seems to be the resident Poncho guru.

Yea, I'm over on PY and have a thread going in the street section. Looks like Cometic is my only option right now. I only mentioned it because I never really thought about it whan I was at the shortblock phase of my build. You may want to start looking into it for your application. Not sure if you already said if you will be decking or boring your block?

I'm going to wait until we finish the heads and cc a few chambers before I make a decision on decking the block. I do want to get as close to zero deck as possible while keeping the static CR reasonable.

I've been taking my time, reading just about everything I can and getting lots of opinions before I jump. So....hopefully I won't end up with an expensive pile of metal when I'm done!

Yep, same here, lol. I saw that a new Pontiac rebuild book came out in the last issue of high performance pontiac. I was going to check it out when I get a minute. Might be a good addition to the Jim Hand book.

Try to find a reprint of HO's wonderful High Performance Engine Building and Blueprint Assembly. Although dated, it is the Pontiac Bible.

If it's the one I'm thinking of I don't think it's available until April. I had planned on picking that up too.

I'll do some looking while I'm online at work to see if I can find that one as well.

I was reading your thread over there a few minutes ago. Looks like you'll be able to dodge an expensive bullet after all!

Just put a chevy 350 in it and get someone to paint Pontiac on the valve covers and throw on a Pontiac air cleaner lol, Dumb people wouldnt know.

Yea, that's why it's good to ask a bunch of questions. I may have found one other option, sold through Pacific Performance. It's a ROL gasket and it looks to be a little thicker at .045

It would definitely give you that extra .002-.003" of clearance you may need. I always find it funny when people come out of the wood works to "one-up" each other in those kinds of threads on PY.
