Put the driveshaft in before you run it unless you want all your transmission fluid to end up on the floor when it runs out the tailshaft.

If your parking brake works properly you can use that to hold the car while you run through the gears.
I don't recommend running it through the gears without the driveshaft, you risk breaking parts since there will be nothing to stop the rotation when changing between reverse and drive and park. It'd be a shame to **** up your new trans.

that looks nice and clean....the wire lock on the header bolts looks like it could be a bit tighter tho so the bolts don't have a chance to back off..I haven't wire locked anything since I worked on aircraft......so when's the big day?

nice! looks real clean!

The big day is saturday. The wire locks are as tight as they'll get. The wires are inside a stainless sleeve for better protection against header heat. They're at autozone for $10.

I didn't know they were in metal sleeves, that's a neat idea so you don't have to have the wire sitting hard on the header to make the wire lock effective...

I thought it was too when I saw them in that little performance section. I lost 2 header bolts last year from them backing themselves out. The sleeve is flexible so that way it forms along with the inside wire. The bolts are zinc coated as well for a little more added protection. Gives the motor more of a performance look too, not like I really need it.
