'81 Caballero dies with too much gas.

I'm 15 and first car is a gmc caballero, usually runs great and has no rust. Couple days ago she would die when either giving gas very fast and slowly at around 1/2 pedal. It has a 305 and the year is 81. I'm guessing it's the carb but not sure. Has anyone experienced similar problems and does anyone know a fix?

welcome to the forum, it could be the accelerator pump is shot. When you take off the air cleaner and open the throttle is there any gas being shot into the carb

Yeah when ever I do her I hear the gas being shot but I couldn't see any.

It could be your fuel pump is the problem

Have you ever changed the fuel filter?

sounds like a bad vacuum leak. check all the vacuum ports on the carb front and rear..... test you alternator also to make sure it's putting out enough voltage to run the hei ignition.... the ignition needs 12volts or more to run properly.

Basics first. Fuel filter, take a gas sample and check for water, fuel pressure. Can you easily accelerate to 60 and maintain?
