The best way to describe finding parts in this yard is when I tried to get an international 345 2 barrel intake. Dad's 73 pickup had a factory 2 barrel and he swapped on a 4 barrel 15 years ago. It never ran right and was way happier with the 2 barrel motocraft but he sold the manifold not long after swapping to the 4 barrel so I headed to this yard to get another 2 barrel.
I asked the old man at the desk what I needed, he said check the school bus. All exhaust manifolds, intakes, engine mounts, calipers, diffs, ect are in school buses.
I looked in the cast iron manifold bus and saw a floor covered in cast iron intake manifolds. Buick, chev, Mopar, Ford, Studebaker, ect, all in brand piles. The IH manifolds were in between the Y block Ford and the BB Mopar stuff.
I stumbled (literally) on the IH manifolds pile leaning up against the wall. Plenty of square and spread bore 4 barrels but no 2 barrels. Mind you I have never seen a spread bore IH manifold, but they had 3.
I went back to the office and said I couldn't find any 2 barrels. He said did you check outside the bus, I said no I didn't know I was supposed to. I walked back out and looked outside the bus and no go. I went back to the office and said I wasn't able to find it and he walked out with me. He went to the passenger side wheel well, kicked a spot in the leaves and low and behold 3 2 barrel IH manifolds were sitting in a pile under some foliage.
Nothing is inventoried in paper except in the mind of the two old men. He knew 25 years ago where he set it, and when that dumb 19 year old tried telling him he didn't have one he called my bluff and showed me right where he left them.
