'83 Cutlass Cruiser Build Thread

Been debating adding the vinyl woodgrain trim around the car once it's painted. Should I do it?

Well, I guess that solves that...

I still have yet to make it out to my storage unit to pull the window channel out of the Malibu to use on the rear window for the Olds. I really should just bring the whole car home, so I can part it out and junk the thing. I thought it was worth hanging on to for some odd reason, but now that I have two other wagons that are actually nice, the Malibu really doesn't need to stay around. It's hard to get rid of it though, since it still runs great even with over 225K, and was such a good car to me... oh well, some of it's parts will live on...

Well, you have to weigh the cost of storage versus the value of the car. I have learned the hard way that it is not worth keeping an excess number of vehicles that you will not likely use. All they do is cannibalize resources from other areas of your life...like other cars. I, for one will be quite happy to be back down to two cars in a few months as it will make it easier to move on with my life in other areas.

Yeah, that's just it...

If I had a place where I could just leave it outside for free, I'd hang on to it. I wish I could just stuff it in the trees behind the house... but I don't think my mom would be too keen on that...

Instead, it's taking up precious space in my 40' shipping container that I rent. Right now, the Malibu and the Caprice are in there, and once the Malibu is gone, then the Olds wagon can hibernate in there for the winter.

I have always liked the way these wagons look. There is but one draw back to them: The back door windows do not roll down. I have always wanted to find the GM executive who let that one go and smack him around a bit, then ask why? I mean, if they could figure out how to do it with the Crapalier wagon, and Ford could do it with the similarly shaped Fairmount wagon, why couldn't GM do it with the midsize wagon?

for some reason, this thread made me really want one of these, with a 24 valve cummings.

Do it to it! Maybe a Duramax?

Yeah, that's a good question. I've read that they claim it was to increase interior space... I guess it's good motivation to fix/maintain the A/C system... which I coincidentally deleted... Though I think I may have to get it working in the Buick... Even so, it's really not that bad without it, and it's suprising how much air moves through the car with the rear vents open.

Yeah, but you live in Minnesota, so it probably isn't much of an issue up there. Here in Florida no A/C=death.

Geography is a big part of it...

I'm sure you guys down south scratch your heads when we delete our a/c...

Just about the same as how us guys up here scratch our heads when you delete your heaters...

I deleted everything in my AMC, and yeah... it's no fun. On a humid night, the windshield fogs up, on a hot summer's day, you fry, and on a cool evening you shiver. You can't roll up the windows because the car isn't exactly sealed from exhaust gases, etc.

Well, not an update about the Olds wagon, but I thought I'd throw one on about My Buick wagon...

Tomorrow morning I'll be driving to Arizona with one of my best friends to pick up a '70 Buick Skylark that he's buying and towing it back.
The car has a complete Buick 350 in it that he's giving me as part of the deal to help him swap in the Pontiac 455 that he has in his ratty '70 Tempest (yeah I know, Poncho powered Buick), but it's a free motor for me. I'll keep driving the Buick till the 3.8 gives up, and then I'll go through the 350 and drop that in.
It's always nice to have an extra motor laying around, especially since I sold my extra Chevy 350, and the other ended up in the Olds wagon.
It's a 25 hour drive down there, then we'll load up the car, sleep for a little bit, and then head back, and hopefully be back in time for me to make it to trivia on Sunday nite...
Should be a fun road trip, I just hope his brother's 4Runner that we're taking hangs in there...
