Been debating adding the vinyl woodgrain trim around the car once it's painted. Should I do it?

Headliner looks good, as does the cluster. I have to make a fiberglass headliner board for mine, as the foam is deteriorated too bad.

Thanks!

Making a headliner board just sounds like way too much work! I would just keep an eye on the yards for another wagon and harvest it out of that. They're really easy to pull, especially if you aren't concerned about breaking the trim around it...

I would think a headliner board formed in fiberglass could be kinda difficult to make. It would certainly be a lot stronger than the OEM foam board crap. I have used fiberglass matting to reinforce the corners where the sunvisors screw in. It was starting to crumble in those places. I too would like to find a replacement headliner.
I guess a form would have to be made and then laid out in fiberglass cloth. There's alot of curves in that shell. Plus it's a two piece deal.

Knowing Jim, this would be another challenge for him. So far he's been able to accomplish everything he puts his mind to.
Atta boy, Jim.

Blake, your wagon is going to look sweet when you paint it. It does look good now. It's got patina. What color were you considering?

Thanks for the compliments Jack!

Yeah, It would be a bit of work, 😀 , but, I have had the Malibu for 4 years, and the Buick for 2. I have only seen on wagon in the yards by me in that time, and I lucked out and got all got interior panels I can dye/paint. No dice on the headliner though.

I have the headliner board out of the Chevy, I am just gonna take a Saturday, and brace it all up to make a mold, then lay some mate over it. I take lotsa pics. Should be plenty strong with 2 layers. And I have both pieces so that is good.

I will make the mold very rigid, so I can make a few more. I have to figure out how much resin get used though, $45.00 a gallon locally, so It could cost between 60-150 bucks to make, but it'll be well worth it for me.

Anyhow, your ride is looking good. Nice weather is coming. Do you have any plans for the spring on the longroof?

I've got it picked out, it's a stock '79 color, and yes, I'm doing the woodgrain.
Though it will stop at the lower body line, and not go all the way down to the bottom of the doors like the picture.

I like the color. It should look good with the woodgrain effect. So you're going to go half way up (or down) with the woodgrain.
Here's the company that Nowukno (Johnnie) used.

How are you going to trim it out?

Thanks for the link.

I was originally going to try and add the stock aluminum moldings surrounding the vinyl.
However the likelyhood of finding damage-free pieces is extremely slim, and though I have a ton of experience straightening and polishing stainless and aluminum moldings, I just don't have the ambition to do it...
I plan on using pin-striping tape like Johnnie did on his wagon.

The weather was a beautiful 65* yesterday so I went and got the wagon out of storage.
Reconnected the battery and it fired right up after sitting since thanksgiving.
I had to wiggle the license plate light bulb around in the socket to get it to work and add a quart of ATF that leaked out.
Drove it to work today even though it's pouring rain and 20* colder than yesterday...

One of these damn days the weather will make up its mind

Blake...come to the dark, erm, light green side...Medium Sage Metallic...
