'83 Cutlass Cruiser Build Thread

Been debating adding the vinyl woodgrain trim around the car once it's painted. Should I do it?

Nice to see more progress taking place, Blake.
Hope the car show gave you some inspiration. 😀

Got the inner fenders shot with some sealer today.
Saturday I'll strip the hoods for the wagon and 442...

Friday I decided to head out and get a head start on the 442 and wagon hoods.
I got 3/4 of the way there and realized that I forgot the 442 hood at the house!
So after some extra driving I cleaned up the underside of the 442 hood.
It didn't have a liner on it for some time and was super grungy.
Fortunately it was so nice once it was clean I don't plan on painting the underside.
I also trimmed out a portion of the inner brace for some extra clearance.
The wagon hood did have a liner, and was just a little dusty.

Yesterday I hit both hoods with the stripper and got them 95% cleaned off.
I'll hit them with the d.a. next time and finish them off.

The 442 hood is mint.
The wagon hood looks almost as bad as the roof... 🙄

Blake,
I thought you found a replacement hood for the wagon...I don't recall. 😕 ...Is that an aluminum hood?

The original steel hood was junk... hail damaged.
Got the 1st aluminum hood from Jacob... was already iffy and then the storm finished it off.
This is the 2nd aluminum hood that I got from Rohner's after the storm, and it too has pre-existing hail damage. Yay.
So I've been unsuccessfully looking for a 3rd for a while. If I can find a nicer one for the right price, it'd sure save me time.
There was a couple on the local CL recently, but they were too much $$ and didn't look any better than mine...
So I'm just going to start fixing this one. If it turns out shitty, I can always keep an eye out for a replacement.
Who knows... seeing that W-25 style hood on Jim's wagon sure put some dirty thoughts into my head...

I love the hood, and it isn't even painted yet! Needless to say the price is a huge turnoff for most, but, there is no one around me who has it, which I why I bought it.

If I got that hood I'd have to put a rowdy motor in to justify it! lol
That's a whole 'nother can of worms I've been chasing around in my head...

Blake, I had no idea you've gone thru several hoods already. Hail is nothing to mess with.
I hope you're able to fix yours easily enough...or find a good replacement.

Jim's hood is a cool piece, no doubt. It would look bitchin' on your car...but as Jim pointed out, it's a pricey piece, and is more unique than your common cowl induction type hood.

I swear those alum hoods bend easier than an aluminum can with the luck you have had.

I'm still jealous of that cutlass alum hood.
