Shows how reman engines turn out a lot of the time.

No, the .060" oversized pistons are needed to fix your 307. You don't want the cheap cast pistons in a 350, only the 24cc dish pistons are available, they give very low compression. Good forged pistons cost 3 times as much, Speedpro forged 350 pistons, twice as much as those 307 pistons I linked. Your 307 is fine for a cruiser. Get it bored and honed for .060" oversized pistons, cleanup mill on the deck, balanced and the crank checked for proper clearances. A cam upgrade like this will help performance a bit.https://www.summitracing.com/parts/lun-10420211/make/oldsmobile
It depends how much more power you want.

Ok awesome. Thanks for your help

Received pricing from a local machine shop in Jupiter.

Bore and Hone - $280.00
Balance Rotating Assmb - $250.00

i forgot to ask about Hot Dip and Milling the deck so I will call back for those prices.

already more than i wanted to spend on this motor, but i cant find an Olds 350, and even if I did, i would have to spend this much anyway to do all that and then some, and for what? more HP that I dont need? Im not a racer, just a cruiser.

i have read over and over about not wasting money on 307's due to lack of power, but I tend to think that is the race crowd more concerned with speed than normal driving conditions.

so I think i will just rebuild this motor. i already put so much work in the top end (mostly labor only)

The 307 is a fine cruising motor, usually very reliable.

so I've heard. i think whoever did the rebuild (based on my knowledge of who had the car, and it having hydraulics, and alot of other ghetto rigged nonsense i found) either did a crap job like was mentioned here, or something didnt match, or he didnt break it in.

even the guy at the machine shop when i described what the pistons look like said something similar, something was not done correctly. I think the smart choice is to do what you had suggested and bore and hone it and not take any chances

I would think there are probably performance aluminum heads and hotter cams for the 307. Sure, it might not be a dragstrip monster, but should be plenty for a street car. Shoot, I’m puttering around with a 231 2-bbl V-6. You want to talk about gutless!
