84' Cutlass pro touring build

That's what I thought. just wanted to be sure. Thanks again brother. Waiting for FedEx to drop off primer and paint but depending on temperatures today may have to wait until tomorrow or Monday to apply. Hope firewall turns out nice. First time doing this and kinda nervous

Meh, you got this! Just remember, it can always be sanded down and sprayed again. Ask me how I know lol!

it's good to see you error on the side of caution,if the metal's on the cooler side it's not gonna be as receptive.just don't get wet & wild with the coats and you'll be ok.i smoothed my firewall, went crazy, you'll be surprised how much you DON'T see when it's all back together.🙂

So I sprayed primer and satin black today on firewall. Temperatures were within range. Cleaned a couple times with pre prep and a bunch of clean white hand towels. And cleaned some more. So I bought some Gerson medium tack clothes and went over with one of them which I probably didn't need to do. Anyway I swear it left stickiness on surface. Definitely on my hands. I cleaned again with pre prep. White towels had no discernable color (dirt) on them. My question is what is up with the tack cloth? Is is supposed to leave a sticky feel ??? Remember I am clueless about this but in dire need of schooling! Thanks

Yep, tack clothes do sometimes leave that feeling. I usually use wax and grease remover with a microfiber cloth as a final wipe down before primer or paint. I'll use a tack rag, but go back with the W&G and microfiber. I'm a rookie with it, so hopefully the pro body and paint guys will shed more light.

Yes it seems counterintuitive because everything I've read says tack it right before painting. Hopefully the pro painters will advise before I get to the bodywork.

I'm no 'pro' but have taken community college paint/body classes to know a little better what all is involved to get paint 'right'. Cheaper tack clothes can feel sticky but their job is to remove any residual dust or lint before applying color. If you notice a film after wiping w/the tack cloths on hand, you'll be fine using the micro towel & degreaser as Injectedcutty mentioned (especially for under-hood stuff).
