decided to pull the dash today so I can clean it up and recolor it. Ordered some dark maple interior paint off ebay.

I also used a silver sharpie and more importantly my MOLOTOW liquid Chrome pen to touch up some of the dash panels.

Recolored some pieces. they look SO much better.

I did start the reinstall of the recolored dashpad. WOW it was a real pain to reattach all the wiring harness to the back of it and get everything in the right place.

On another note I did get the Ttop repair panel attached to the car. Its nice to see solid metal up there again. So we are making progress.

Anyone know what this thing is behind the instrument panel? what it goes to?

The grey module contains a small lamp and blue filter, and the "wire" coming out of it is a fiberoptic line. Where is it trying to send the blue light?

my first thought was the hi beam indicator, but I just don't see anywhere to put the line.

That's a new one on me. I'm interested to see that you find. What goes in that square hole to the bottom left? I'm thinking the FO would be some sort of switch lighting.... gray wire is dimmable if that helps.

Isn't that a rare fiber optics turn signal lamp option?

The end of that fiber optic line goes to the side of the headlamp switch. A lot of times that grey pod is melted and brown and deformed because people use the wrong bulb in it. IIRC, there's a specialty bulb inside used for the fiberoptic. It's been a long time. Don't recall the correct bulb number that goes in there. I recall buying one from the dealer once...many many moons ago.

Anyway, there should be a clear clip if I remember right that runs behind the headlight switch that the fiberoptic line clips into. It provides a small blue dot lit up so you can find your headlamp switch in the dark since the switch isn't lit up from behind.

Mystery solved!
