got a call from my friend today, his brother is the one rebuilding my trans,i was gonna do it but he is only going to charge 200 to go thru it and he is a good trans builder. i was just gonna do stock specs but he found me some used parts, all very low miles. he got me a hardened input shaft. some new red clutch plates he had sittin around instead of using stock ones, a heavy duty sprag and drum assembly, and a tailhousing with roller bearings. got it all for 300 bucks. so now im sure this trans will hold up to some nitrous launches.

my trans should be done in a couple days. and i went to pick up a 2k stall converter my uncle gave to me. so that should be it for my trans setup. so far i got a th350 with hardened input shaft, roller tailshaft, heavy duty sprag drum, and some red clutch plates along with a rebuild kit. spent alot more than intended on spending on my trans but at least now i know it will hold up. out back i got a mini spool with 3.42 and stock 26spline axles. thats pretty much it for now at least till next week. hopefully i will have my motor back so i can start putting it back together.

i got a call at 6 this morning. my trans is done  my boy mike stayed up all night rebuilding it for me. as soon as the banks open im gonna go pull out some money so i can pay him and pick that bad boy up. and check in with the machine shop to see how long it will take till i can get my short block back. i just might have it back together before i leave on the 23. oh yeah 8)

checked in with the block today. they got the cam bearings and freeze plugs in and the block has been boiled. but they didnt get to bore it. he said he didnt know if i just wanted basic bore job or a bore with torque plates. and he had my old cell number. oh well i told them to align bore the mains and bore the lifter bores too. so by the end of this week i should have it should be ready to pick up. hopefully not this weekend but the next weekend i can have it put back together and ready to drop back in.

That sounds a bit odd to me. Granted I don't work at a machine shop but I would want ALL machining to be done before the cam bearings are ever installed.

no u dont have to pull the cam bearings out. i asked when i was there cuz i wanted to make sure i wasnt gonna pay for a new set. he said after the machining the wash that they do wont hurt the bearings either. it really dont seem that odd. i konw a hand full of guys who just buy forged 30 over pistons and take there block apart and take it to only get the cylinders bored then put it back together without even putting in new cam bearings.

I hope you don't have any issues, but I sure wouldn't chance it. Good luck.

im sure it will be all good. i trust my machine shop and have been using them for yrs so i will take his word.

made a trade for a cam. well havent traded yet. get to meet up tomorrow to trade. i was gonna go with a elgin grind but i saw this post on cl for a brand new cam with matching lifters and springs. its a comp 280h or 12-212-2 with 812-16 lifters and 981-16 single springs. i called comp earlier today and they said it would work great with my set up since i am running 3.42s and a 2k stall. i gonna trade it for a nitrous kit i had sittin around. so now all i need are some new valves and locks and retainers. but i dont think im gonna get it done before i leave on the 23rd. well i know im not gonna get it done before then. so im just doing what i can to the car before i go and not rushing it.

Nice build! Any more updates?

I've never heard of anyone leaving their bearings in while having machine work done as well. I guess you can just wipe them down and blow everything out before inserting cam?

Hopefully they put the freeze plugs and cam bearings in after hot bathing/acid dipping your block.
