Called around Friday to find a sandblasting shop, got the wheel sandblasted for $15. Guy sandblasting it also wondered how the hell I did it since he wanted a set of chevy rallys cut down like this too so he said he did an extra good job because he appreciated the idea, haha.
Also got my tires Friday. I ordered them at like 11pm thrusday and they were at my door at noon Friday. Got them from speedway motors. A lot of people dont like running these radial VW skinnes on the front of a heavier car since they arent load rated but these are for 1200lbs each so they are near the limit but ok for now. It's a firestone made for hotrods and not a cheap asian design/mfg $40 tire so I am more comfortable.
Mounted tires and they leaked as you can see by the bubbles.
Welded the whole rear face and it still leaked. Actually leaked out of the seam between the center and the barrel to the front since i ended up just blocking the rear of the leak path, went out the front. Took tire off rim, put a thin coat of epoxy over the weld and it seems OK now. Must have had some pinhole leaks in the fillet weld for the front to back.
Needs paint (bought a pint of the charcoal today, using the GM silver i painted my fender and quarter with couple months ago) Overall it bolts on and looks good.
Almost an artistic shot! Look at that real distressed bumper paint and total lack of caring for body lines.
Sticks out a touch more than I wanted but I have some 2" spacers on now for my C5 wheels and a set of 1.5's on the shelf i just have to modify to clear the G body spindle rotor assy.
