BUILD THREAD 86 GP 2+2~Blown 6.0

Patiently waiting for my blower belt.

I don't understand logistics.

Bought off rock auto. It shipped from a warehouse 1 hr north west of me. It's now in a warehouse outside of Chicago which is 5 hours away. It likely drove through my town on the way to Chicago. Shipped via DHL from the warehouse to the other warehouse and then USPS from there to my place. All for $3. I couldn't ship a pencil in a bubble envelope an hour away for $3 but somehow they can find a way to ship a belt that stated 1 hour away and ship it 6 hours away and then ship it back to me and still make money.

I am lost....

Fed Ex does that kind of stuff all the time too, goes from a couple hours away in Ohio all the way to Kentucky then over to somewhere else before coming here. Drives me crazy, much like this tracking that is taking forever since it was in Indiana on Saturday then traveled around to go back to Indiana and sit there since early yesterday just to get here on Thursday :itchy:

So I want 15x4 pontiac ralleys up front for drag use. Nobody makes one. So I am making one.

I bought a set of salvage yard 2wd blazer spindles, one was missing a wheelbearing and one had it so I stole it (it had some boogered threads anyways)

Nutsert center punches coming in handy here. THe tool is on the left and the center thread punches thread in like a set screw

So what am I doing? A 15x6 ralley came on 78-81ish F body and B bodies, they had about 4" BS so only about 2" from the front face to the wheel lip

And a 15x7 has 4" BS too but 3" from the wheel mount surface to the outside of the bead

Basically, I am cutting 3" off the back of the 15x6 and cutting 1.25" or so off the front lip of the 15x7 and butt welding the halves together. We will see how it goes!

Seriously I think that is awesome that you can do that.

I would never even attempt anything like that .

I have a set off Olds rims you can make wider for me!!!!!!!!

I come up with these lunatic ideas sometimes and am like why not try. Half a dozen years ago or so dad made some wheels for his 73 IH pickup kinda this way so thats where the inspiration came from. He welded a IFS from a 95ish dodge 1500 in his 73 IH 1110 since it came with a solid leaf front axle with drums stock. The stock 16" dodge ralley worked for the front with 6" BS or so but it was too much BS for the rears. He cut the centers out of the 16" dodge rally and flipped it to get to like 3.5" BS. Worked good and kinda solidified my view that wheels aren't as precision and most people think. The runout on a stock steel wheel that has no vibrations is significantly higher than people think.

Widening is next up for the rears. I need to find another set of 15x6 for what i am doing. I want to make sure I can get these to balance well.

Next up is having my aerospace welding TIG buddy to weld the halves together.

Guy I work with cut apart and rewelded some stock steel 17" Ford Crown Vic wheels to use on his old Ford Falcon for a corner Carver. Looks awesome with the little chrome center caps and a wide 17" tire...

Day 2!

Cut the 15x7 apart

Ended up around 4 3/8 wide. I ordered some 165r15's (firestone vw tires) today so they should be here monday. I am going to see if I can get these sandblasted and painted before I go to far, mount tires and check for leaks.
