I ordered a chunk of aluminum friday at noon since work (the university) is closed and I cant raid the scrap shelf. Mcmaster got it to my door in like 23 hours. Always amazed at how good they are.

Got the new idler bracket made today. It ended up a bit low since I guessed, but it should do a good job. The belt is close to the belt wrap around the water pump but I think I will be able to get by. Theres 1/16-1/8" clearance or so.

Also measured the belt and realized I need one off a 2004 rainier (if my string measuring is correct). Score! I have one in the driveway! I thankfully checked first and sadly its for a 4.2 I6, not the 5.3 like mine. I'll have to order one. I hope its the right length. I would usually buy 4 and test fit for the best one but I'm waiting it out at home so I'll order one of rock auto and wait a few days.

Also I pulled the brackets off to powdercoat.

What did I see on the powdercoating gun box? Made in China, ok, CORONA!!!! I better break out the mask!

I might bolt it in someday this week and I'll test fit the belt once it shows up. See if its anywhere close.

Deleted the HVAC today.

April fool's.

There was a small hole in the AC box. I don't remember if it was from me or the previous owner but i thought it would clean the box out and fix the hole before I hook up the ac.

Actually the hole is pretty big, like apple sized. I don't really want to try and fiberglass it so I'll probably try to pop Rivet a piece of aluminum in there.

Today was beautiful and was able to work in the garage with the door open. I ordered a belt on Monday from RA and got it Thursday. It was too short so I cut it and measured the right length. Oddly enough the belt I needed was for a 3800 4th gen firebird which I have, but its hours away at Dad's on the car, so I ordered one up Thursday at noon. The Rockauto belt warehouse is in IA so its like a 2hr trip to me so I ordered it via fed-up and it showed up Saturday and I test fit it and its good! Maybe a touch long, really I need 1/4" shorter to be perfect since I am toward the bottom end of the tensioner stroke but it should be OK. We will see when it spins 6000 rpm or when its banging off the two-step if it stays on

I patched the hole in the HVAC box with a piece of old stop sign that I pop riveted in and cleaned and reassembled the box.

I also repainted the wiper windshield trim panel, there was a big spot with paint missing and had surface rusted so I sanded that down and rattle canned it with some SEM black I had on hand. One of those things I should have done a few years ago but never did it. Also got a small dent out of it so its not kinked and the wipers actually will "park" in position instead of being stuck since they wouldn't climb over the trim panel since it never fit flat.

I lost a few of the photos for some reason but its back together, the belt doesn't squeak and it tracks nice.

It's fun car season again and although I don't NEED to go anywhere, it should be fun to get it back on the road.

I'll probably grab the wagon out of storage sometime this month and leave this car with Dad so he can get AC lines made. I got the stock condenser to evaporator line installed so I just need him to make two 2 foot lines from the compressor to the condenser and the drier and I should be in AC bliss.

And when I was in my driveway painting that trim panel someone in a nice restomod blue and white 68 T/A randomly stopped in the road in front of my place and did like a 100ft rolling burnout, so now my neighborhood is going to think it was me that left the rubber marks on the road. Lol....

I also got the other side of the E-brake hooked up, just had to build a little bracket to tie the two cables together from the zr2 s10 stuff to the stock G body cable at the splice under the floor by the trans x member.

If I get ambitious this week I might swap the PCM with the flex fuel one and try to get flex working on the car.

I am (slowly) running out of things to do where I can give a legitimate excuse to not paint this car....

Well I have burned almost a full tank of gas in the last week and haven't spit the belt yet. That's good!

Everything seems to be doing OK. I think next up is getting some adjustable front upper control arms, having dad get the AC lines made and a new driveshaft built as this one hits a resonance on decel at like 60mph. Decided I am going to get those W body leather seats out of the salvage yard next time I go.

I had intended on getting some 15X10 ralleys for drag radials for the back but since all the tracks are closed for the forseeable future I don't have a ton of motivation to spend money on stuff I can't use. Might as well focus the time on getting the car looking better and feeling more comfortable.

I might even pull the passenger side rear view mirror and paint it finally haha. It was broken off at the stand when I got the car so grabbed a random blue one from the salvage yard. I forgot to paint it when I touched up the quarter and fender few years back so I've been rocking around a blue mirror with faded primer top for the past few years.

I've done the local cruise night on Saturday the last two weekends. Kinda boring from a 'race' perspective but it's better than sitting at home. Here is a photo from one of the media people that stands on the curb.

Car is a solid 20fter when viewed from a blurry photo :p Still little to no motivation to paint it.
