Here's an article of some things to check for.

There's nothing wrong with running a 195 thermostat, especially considering what time of the year it is.

I'd say your first performance part should be a newer Performer or Performer RPM manifold.
I had a Torker II when they were new. They weren't much good back then and they haven't gotten any better

it that temp based on your temperature gauge? Why are you using a 195º thermostat?
yea temp gauge...went to autozone said i needed thermostat ..guy said the failsafes are the best this the one he gave me ..also i got the re-usuble performance gasket

I always use Stant thermostats. When you turn the heater on does that reduce the engine's temp?

I'm back to using Stant Super Stats. In the early 90's I ran Super Stats till I found Robert Shaw thermostats.
Robert Shaw sold that end of their company and now they're all offshore produced junk under various names, the most common being Mr Gasket.
Stant Super Stats are still made in the US and from what I hear the NAPA Premium is also the Super Stat just sold for more money under the NAPA name. I still have the first and only 160 degree thermostat I bought way back then and it happens to be the Super Stat. I removed it and placed it back into it's box in short order because it was just too cold with my custom built HD radiator. Comparing the old one to the new one I have to say the older one is higher quality with more attention to detail and finish.

The Autozone fail safe has a tendency to fail.
I recently picked up one of the Autozone Duralast stainless steel thermostats PN# 15359 = 195 degree, PN# 15358 = 180 degrees.
They actually have a larger opening than the Stant Super Stat. I can't remember if the hole was 1/16 or 1/8 of an inch larger :blam:, but it is bigger.
They also have one small bleed hole in them, the downside is they're made in Israel.

..not sure bout fan clutch how can u tell ..ill check n start it up in the morning

Well in some cases they can get real bad.If you can easily spin it by hand the fan clutch is done.

just a thought,,if all else checks out,,,replace the water pump,,it is possible you could have the wrong one on it,,,meaning you have a reversr flow waterpump on a non reverse set up,,,check it out,,,

I was thinking the water pump or the thermostat believe it or not ppl install thermostats wrong and dont notice until their car overheats try replacing the thermostat 1-2 dollar fix rule that out then look towards the water pump just my opinion
