Are you running rear disk brakes?
No just manual S10 cylinders and stock shoes. Nothing special. Honestly I never felt the need to swap to discs. The brakes are pretty good to me especially with the hydroboost.

Got the gauge panel back from the hydrodipper. Looks freakin killer! Also got my shifter balls, dash trim, and door panel pull bolt covers dipped. Gonna get my console plate done soon.

I also got the rust hole under the rear seat patched and sealed up. Tonight I can officially start prepping the floors for paint.

Got some work done. Underside of the floors are DONE! Seam sealed, cleaned down to bare metal in 90% of areas and painted. I also got the firewall finished. I welded up all the little holes from the self tappers installed either at the factory or just over the years. Caught the inside insulation on fire. Good times. After a few thin coats of filler, lots of sanding, sealer, paint, and clear its done. The body is now ready for the frame. I plan on setting the body down this coming weekend or the next weekend. Not sure if I wanna get the engine in first or not.

I settled on a color for the body by the way. I know the original plan was either white or maroon but there's something about a black car 🙂 With the silver frame it should look killer.

I also ordered a set of GNX fender louvers for it. I planned on installing a set on the 83......obviously never got that far. I don't think they look as good on any other color than black.

I got a quick question....the harness all the way to the right of the last photo, what is it? Has a vacuum line, 4 or 5 prong connector and a lone ground wire. I assume cruise control but wanna make sure before I ditch it. Would I have any problems if I just removed it and used a rubber grommet style plug for the firewall? I really wanna get rid of all the sh*t I won't use to make the wiring simpler......any input is appreciated.

Correct me if wrong, but i think that's for the wiper motor....been a long time since i had any of that sh*t hooked up! I love the idea of filling firewall holes....that's what i did on my cutlass and i think it turned out well, along with useless holes on the frame and inner fenders. Love the progress man!

I personally think a black Monte with any kind of fender vents would just look totally stupid and I think you should pick another color that is less black.😉

Im not sure about the connector. I know there's a wiper harness that is in that general area but every wiper setup I have seen for these cars is a smaller plug. This plug is way bigger, definately not something I had on the 83. I'll see if I can get a pic later.

As far as the filling holes thing goes, I have always hated how ugly these firewalls are from the factory. Most people wouldn't put that much time into it but it bugs the sh*t out of me. On my last one I just sanded it clean and painted. Still looked horrible it was just shiny so I figured this would be only chance on this one.

LOL, I thought about the GNX vents for my Monte but decided to go with something similar but smaller, mine are Buick Lesabre vents and I cut the fourth one off, angled the ends and opened up the holes to make them functional.
I do have a set of GNX vents that I might install on my Regal and I agree I think they look best on a black or at least a dark colored car.

Agreed on the factory firewalls, i tried to fill as many holes as possible, cut the wiper motor bracket off, moved the fuse block inside, smoothed that whole area to clean it up. As you know that sh*t takes a ton of time but the end result is worth it. The only really visible wiring i have now is for the efi and starter wiring....headlight/electric fan wiring is mounted on studs welded to the outside of the inner fenders and held in place with cushion clamps and locknuts.

As far as the vents go....along with 565bbchevy i agree on a different color than black....i have a secret color up my sleeve for my cutlass that the vents would look killer with....however i backed out on the idea of using vents. Keep up the gr8 work the monte is looking awesome!
