90 degree elbow for oil pressure sender

I have a Chevy 350 from a 1990 C-1500. The oil sending unit sits in a square elbow fitting on back of the block. (The shaft sits 7/8" from the top of block when screwed in, and the elbow hangs 7/8" perpendicular to the shaft.) The elbow doesn't clear to turn over the intake manifold, which means that 1) I can't tighten it properly. (it might brake or its too lose.) 2) Since, the elbow sticks a bit over the intake manifold, removing the intake manifold now requires at least loosening the brackets on the front of the engine. So, I want to replace the damn thing. This part is listed for a 70-72 Cutlass. Should it work in '90 350 or do I need to piece other fittings together?

just cut the elbow so you remove the rest of it
 
Thanks. I already have the intake manifold off. The question is what can I replace it with?

If it's a Chevrolet, the block is tapped for a 1/8" NPT just to the left of the distributor. This is easily identified by the geyser of oil that goes up your nose when you prime the engine with no plug or sender screwed into it. Ask me how I learned this.
If you have gauges, there is a big transducer - idiot light uses a less chunky switch.

I'm guessing that is your interference. You can use a spiral Easy-Out from the hardware store to extract the rest of the nipple broken off in the block. You can find a brass 45 or 90 at the same hardware store. The top thread in pontiacgp's post is the pipe (NPT) thread. The one on the left is for an AN fitting. You need a female NPT on the short end and male on the long end. I have used 45- and 90-degree elbows, depending upon what else is int he way. MNPT = male national pipe thread; FNPT = female national pipe thread

Thank you for all of the information. I wasn't inferring anything. I have the whole top of the engine off and I am looking to re-engineer the fitting so that it will be possible to remove the fitting without removing the intake manifold, and then remove the intake manifold without playing with the front mounting brackets. I don't know if this was stock on my donor engine, but its exactly the kind of thing GM might have done to increase the cost of repairs to persuade owners to buy a new vehicle. So, to solve this problem it looks like a longer round shaft is needed to screw into the block so that it clears the top of the intake manifold, or a shorter elbow is needed that can tighten properly, or be removed without fouling the intake manifold. Since I still haven't decided on reusing the stock TBI or getting a performance intake for a carb, I am still exploring my options. If I don't see something online or in a plumbing store, I may just ask my machinist to make something to my order.
