It's a new style delphi 600 box. These boxes were designed for nascar and is used in the newer trucks and some cars.

Now that is nothing like a GM 600 box. That looks like an 800 box on steroids.

Mark, the new 600 box is made with different components that they say make it feel like a rack and pinion. This is an 800 box and you can see the input shaft area is different and the casing is not nearly the same on the 600 box. Are you sure it was a 600 box that you had and not a 605?.

That looks like a nice piece.
Steve, what vehicle(s) does this unit originate from....or was it specially engineered for NASCAR?

They have the same bolt pattern to install as our cars and a number of other cars. Nascar and all the race cars I work on, unless rack and opinion, have same mount for the steering box. It has new internal components, including a rack-and-pinion valve spool which the other Saginaw boxes don't have. This new 600 box will work better than the rack and pinion set up they have for G bodies so it makes the price of the 600 box worth it IMO

You may be right Steve. I had the one with the snap ring cover. It was pretty grungy, I thought it said 600. Looks like this:

That is an interesting set up, is that one your cars? That might be a 605 but I am not sure what they look like. I started looking for older 600's cause you're almost never wrong and only found the 800's and one mention of a 605

No, found that pic on the net. But that's the box GM used on lots of our cars, my '81 Malibu had one, but my '83 Bonnewagon had the 800. I had never seen that awesome 600 box you speak of, but a quick search showed them everywhere. I guess I don't get out much.

We have a new Delphi 670 in the Green Machine. It has about 500 miles on it. Most of which are 6000 rpm auto-x and road race miles. Great on-center feel and all around performance.

I'd agree that the Jeep Grand Cherokee box is also a nice upgrade.
