98~05 Blazer brake upgrade! DONE!

I would assume the torque specs provided were for a Blazer?

Wheel Hub and Bearing Assembly to Steering Knuckle Bolts 77 ft.lb
Ball Joint (Lower) 79 ft.lb
Ball Joint (Upper) 61 ft.lb
Ball Joint (Upper Replacement Joint Bolts) 17 ft.lb

The only reason I ask this is because my cutlass shop manual calls for 50 ft.lb for the upper ball joint nut, and 70 ft.lb for the lower nut.

WIll these fit with stock olds 15 inch SSII rims? I'd love to do a swap like this at some point but even my stock brakes look pretty close to my rims and didnt know if i'd run into clearance issues with my rims now

Yes. I installed them on my 86' 442. No rubbing / interference problems.

finished this upgrade myself yet to drive the car but it looks pretty sweet and the pedal feels totally different, like a new car. i also installed some new front springs while i was in there, it was definitely a day job with the springs included. only problem i ran into was had a couple of torn ball joint rubbers and also my sway bar end links broke off which wasnt surprising. dont let the rusty rotors fool ya, they are in good shape

Total Cost;
Pulled Calipers, Rotors, PAB's, hub bolts and found new brake pads at the junkyard $50
blazer 2wd spindles off of craigslist $40
Wheel Hubs from detroit axles $73.79

So not including springs and end links it came to 163.79 so i assume that is the absolute minimum that anybody could expect to spend on this swap but with the money savings comes a lot more labor in prepping used calibers, brackets etc. then you should allow for some miscellaneous costs that you will run into

U can also get them off of 98-05 GMC Jimmy 2wd.. I only pulled spindles and hubs, since im doing the C5/C6 kore3 big brake vette set up.. But u can pull that complete front set up and works the same way as the blazer front set up, same spindles/hubs/pab bracket/rotor/ dust shield etc etc..

I did the install myself. The SSII barely fit i really only have maybe a 1/4 of an inch between my caliper and wheel. SO you can throw any idea of a 14 inch wheel fitting with this project and I'd be willing to guess that some 15 inch wheels would also have issues

Does the gbody brake line give enough slack? I've also read to bend the line down and get the s-10 line bracket with the adapter for the line to get a good fit. Is it necessary?

From the looks of tithe gbody line works. Any long term issues with it?

Thanks,

V8

for anyone planning to use the belltech 2" drop knucles for a blazer ,they will push out your track width between 3/8" to 1/2" on each side.
I have an 02 blazer xtreme and an 81 Malibu wagon. the blazer is about the same weight. it stops way shorter then the wagon does. I am contemplating the idea of swapping these on since I still have my stock blazer knuckles.
all the front hub bearings are abs only.
I just hope the setup will fit behind a 15" x 7" rally rim.

so if you wanted to put drilled slotted rotors instead of the stock blazer rotors.. you would just get drilled slotted rotors for a blazer and they would blot up with no problem.. just curious

Yep, just get them for a blazer and all is good!
