98~05 Blazer brake upgrade! DONE!

It probably couldn't hurt to try flushing out the calipers before plunking down cash for reman'd units. You can always use them as cores if need be.
As for the hubs, you'll have to remove the calipers and rotors in order to check how they spin.
I think I may be lucky as far as the bearings are concerned. They are quite pricey if you haven't noticed.
I haven't installed mine yet, however,I have also found that the caliper mounting brackets are worn and will need to be replaced. I think at that point I will replace the calipers with new brackets.
As for hardware, there really isn't much aside from banjo bolts for your brake hoses and sealing washers. If your units are complete as pulled, the backing plates will be in place with the bolts...and also the caliper bolts. Of course, you will have to check the condition of your hardware.

Do your self a favor...... replace the hubs. Bearings go bad and its better then losing a wheel. Also calipers are cheap. Order from advance auto or even pepboys. My c5 calipers with brackets cost less then 33 a shot. Thats everything but the pads. Just the brackets cost 100 for both off ebay.

Hey Chophead

So I should just get the spindles from the yard? Everything else seems like I should be getting them from the parts store.

Also, this is for the "Blazer" and NOT the "S10 Blazer" correct?

Thanks!

Correct! The S10 Blazer....2wd.

Perfect. I will make sure that the assembly I pick up is for the S10 2wd.

I feel for the cost and peice of mind its worth it. Most online stores have free shipping and pepboys offers in store pickup or delivery. Plus they always have 30 to 35off codes. Hubs are a must imo and since calipers are rebuilt and life time warranty its a good time to do it once so to say. I got used blazer hubs and brought moog hubs, rebuilt c5 calipers, hawk pads and dba rotors. I also brought the kor3 kit. Yes I did spend more but I feel its worth it. But ultimately its your ride. Your money. If you feel the setup you are getting has some run time left then bolt up and at least check it out before you risk yours or others lives. Junk yards are harsh environments and lord knows how the donor was treated before it wound up there. Yards around me required the cars to have no tires so these cars are in mud and dirt. Rusty and gritty crappy parts require love to make them safe again. I saved alot looking for and using coupon codes for all my parts. Message me and I can help you save on other online auto part sites to.

I just read your last post....the s10 2wd setup is different from the 2wd blazer. The blazer is used for running twin piston calipers or c5 setup.while you can run s10 2wd you will benefit more using the blazer. The blazer uses the bolt on hub bearing the s10 is like what you have already.here is a pic of my hub

and this is with the c5 upgrade. This gives you 13in rotors.

Wow, that all looks really good.

So let me set it straight. You CAN use either (S10 or Blazer) but it is recommended to use a regular Chevy "Blazer" for the dual piston setup. I will purchase the following

Junkyard = Spindles & Dustcover from the Chevy Blazer.
Auto Parts Store = Rotors, Calipers, Hub Assembly, Brake Pads, DOT 3 or 4 Fluid

Is there a modification that needs to be made to utilize the C5 Caliper & Rotor upgrade on the blazer parts?

Thanks,
Martin

Martin,
There are custom made brackets that move the calipers outward in order to accommodate the larger rotors.

I'm sure Chophead will elaborate.
