Sorry to hear that this car is too far gone. I just got home from Arizona with my 78 Century this afternoon, and was looking forward to seeing 2 more of these Aero cars being built right here on this forum. 😢

I'm sorry to hear that your Century is beyond saving. It does really suck. I was looking forward to seeing how it turned out for you.
I've been thinking though. I have an idea to run by you. It might sound a bit far-fetched, and you can call me crazy if you like.
I know that you said that you're looking to re-create your high school car, and that you need something that you can drive for now, that easier on fuel than your truck. What I'm proposing is kind of a long-term plan. You said that the Century is basically a parts car now. You've shown on many occasions that you have excellent fabrication, metalworking and welding skills. If you were to find a solid Regal coupe, do you think it would be possible to use your Century as a donor car, and "clone" a Regal coupe into an aeroback car, using parts from the Century? The way I see it, the Century has all of the important items that you would need intact, and in reasonable condition, plus you have your stash of parts to draw from as well.
Like I said, it might sound crazy, but from what I've seen from other cars that you've worked on, there doesn't seem to be much you can't do, once you set your mind to it.

I'm with everyone on this, I hate that it's beyond bringing back.

a few years ago, I had a volvo wagon, that broke down on me, and started a snowball effect ... turns out that the thing had had the front section of the car, from just behind the windshield forward, had been replaced, and the VIN tag had never been put back on... short story long, the DMV theft division had to verify the vin on another area to the title, and issued me another state ID# tag on the car.... I don't know if your state has this type setup, but if you want to save the car at another time, maybe this could be an option...

This just plain sucks. I have no doubt that you could repair the firewall and floor so I'm assuming that the VIN tag is the real obstacle. I have to believe that the DMV/state police would issue you an assigned VIN and corresponding tag since you have documentation. If you have a title and bill of sale, you own the car. It's just that the tag is damaged.

I actually had to do that on a '36 Chevy I built years ago. It was on a Toyota chassis with a 283/powerglide. I had a title for the body (which had no tag) a title for the frame (which numbers I'd painted over, and registration from the engine's donor car. They ended up reusing a portion of the frame's number and giving me a new VIN sticker in the door jamb.

I actually just went to look at an 82 Regal about 30 minutes ago to swap the roof from my Century onto. This car has sat in the same spot since I moved here in 2000. It is not for sale. Going to fix it up one day he says. Funny, I've never heard that before. Was going to paint it all black like a GN. What a conversation piece it would be
