Advice on my 86 Salon 307

I noticed some decent upgrade in power.. especially up hill! but once i got the car i really didn't have the means to open it up the way i wanted to. I think it will take some time before i can give any noticeable responding claims to the swap.

15 mins into the drive i had the throttle stick, so i played it safe. Also it was getting colder out and I didn't want to hit black ice or deer. I'm hoping for some warmer weather FAST!

Yeah I know it's steep! There was a ton of fabrication that had to be done to the headers. The engine cost $750. There was 18 hrs of labor charged. @ $200 in parts, gaskets, paint.

Jeez that's steep. Other than some hiccups how's the power out of the 350 vs the old 307

Labor the killer there. Good luck, I'm glad it's back to you

Looks good man! I'm glad you were able to get it back on the street rather than getting rid of it. Try to track down the throttle linkage for hang ups. Maybe something with the firewall/ pedal linkage? I only say that because it did the same thing before the swap. And again, check the linkage on the trans underneath for your shifting issue. Hopefully all your little issues are just minor adjustments. Good luck!

Thanks! And that's exactly what i was going to do tomorrow as long as it's not too cold out. I don't have a garage unfortunately. If I have any doubts on it I'm just going to make the mechanic change the throttle cable to a new one. the car is so old I wont take any chances.

I've replaced that shifter cable before and it's very possible that the "loop" is not positioned correctly after the engine swap and the headers that had to be cut and welded back on. I'll remover the center console to check. there is no way im going underneath the car.

Do you not want to go underneath the car because you are intimidated to work on it? Or because it is too cold and snowy?
Just remember, if you work on your car yourself, there really isn't anything you break that can't be fixed. It may cost you a little more to fix your mistake, but the knowledge and confidence you gain will save you much more down the road! And if it's because its cold out, throw down a piece of plastic and blanket on the ground and get underneath there! lol

This car fell on me and crushed me in 06' while swapping out of all things a new shifter cable. And yes I will eventually write the book on how i survived  The jack gave way so this is something i can no longer do with out freaking out. If it's on a lift I still have issues but can at least be under it.

I'm going to check things out the best I could and already gave the mechanic a heads up on what's happening.

NEVER go under a car without jackstands!

I know.. but we all do stupid things and that was mine. After 24 years messing with cars i cut corners to tighten the shifter bolt and insert the cotter pin. :blam:

Throttle update: The new return springs for the throttle was hitting the Idle screw. I am not sure how he didnt feel it hanging up. It took me a while. took off the under dash piece that's near the gas and brake pedals.. that ws fine.. checked the air cleaner for clearance that was fine.. so i went and just advanced the throttle by hand real slow and saw that ther was a little bit of gas dripping by the throttle bracket and that's when i saw the rub mark/shinny silver on the idle screw. I crimped down the hook to the bracket to get it out of the way and I also tightened up the return spring. they were way too loose.

The shifting delay into drive from another gear is weird. It takes a bit and then she almost clangs into drive. Like what you would hear if you had U joints going bad on ya.

I spent most of the morning working and the afternoon on the car cleaning the interior. GREASE :puke: I need to get a few things within a month's time. The shifter handle is now cracked at the U pin. (wasn't like that before i gave it to them) The top part of the console where the door hinges onto is destroyed from being used as leverage. I have rigged it before, fabricated glued and spray painted it but if you use it to push off which its not made for it's gonna break and it did . So im not sure how i can repair it now.

The last thing is that my drivers seat power no longer works so I have to figure out a way to reach the gas pedal better. or raise it up some. I'm short but now I can barely floor it.
