Hi all, i was wondering if any of you guys know how to wire in and hide a distributor cut-off switch, or something equally as effective at stopping thieves with just a switch.

I can't really afford an alarm system and i don't have a pistol to carry around with me, so i'm just going to have to put in a switch or two that i can hide in the interior of the car. oh, and i thought the 12voltguy.com switch was a little too pricey for me. Thanks guys!!

the junkyard near my house used to have a caged up bear and later on a tiger to scare off anybody at night that wanted to steal parts.

i did something like that in my buddies truck. Wired up a spdt relay to break the starter wire in the ignition. We got a defroster switch from a blazer and mouted it in his s-10 (no defroster obviously) Looked completely stock. You had to push the defroster button and hold it while you cranked the starter. We wired the relay normally open and pushing the button closed the circut to alow voltage to go the the starter. You could do this with any switch and hide it anywhere. Let me know i will send you details

could you give me a rundown on parts i need and what wires to connect to, because i really don't know what to do here.

Also would a regular button work, because I read on an off-road forum that a guy took the guts out of his cigarette lighter and put a button back there so you just push in the knob to hit the button. i was going to do that unless you have a better suggestion.

sorry if i sound dumb, but i haven't done any electrical work except for the basics. 😳

you could use any button you want. What your going to need to do is go to your ignition harness and find your starter wire. Cut it in a place where you can access both side of the wire easily. wiring should go as follows

spdt relay terminal 85 - 12v
spdt relay terminal 86 - ground signal from switch
spdt relay terminal 87 - starter wire ignition side
spdt relay terminal 87a - leave open
spdt relay terminal 30 - starter wire starter side

the switch will be wired with one side going to ground and the other going to terminal 86 on the spdt relay.

The shopping list is just an spdt relay, some 10 awg wire for the starter, and some good 16 awg wire for the remainig wiring. The length of the wiring will depend on where you mount the relay.

So once thats done, you should have to push the button while starting the car.

I vote everyone in this thread, delete thier posts.
Reason being, you guys are making a handbook for thieves.

I think that a lot of thieves already know this stuff.

If not, finding info elsewhere on the internet is probably easier than searching for it on here.

any of this stuff can be found on the12volt.com with all wire colors and schematics. Whatsthe chance of somebody wanting to steal "THIS PARTICULAR CAR" being on this site?
