Recently heard a few videos with 8 into 1 sequential merge headers, which gives a distinct higher revving sound similar to a flat plane crank engine , such as Ferrari. Pretty similar to 180 degree headers sound.
Obviously the main reasons you don't see more of them is packaging issues for fitment , complexity , & cost.
Pretty sure you have to arrange the pipes going into the collector one after another in the engines firing order to get the proper sequential scavenging & sound.
If I did try to make a set on a g-body, it would have to come forwards & down as seen in Tanner Faust's vw LS7 drift car. Other stuff would need to move to make room.
Considering this as a later future project for sound reasons only & I don't need anyone to say how difficult building these would be. I know that. So it would have to really sound cool in person to be worth all the effort.
here's a google link.

If watching the LSX mag Tanner Faust video, skip ahead to about 18 minutes in. I know a good bit of the reason for his sound is a bad *ss engine, but heard one video with 2 different similar power rock climbing trucks, totally different sound.

Would be bad *ss! Only two ways I can think of to do it. Either in front of the crank just like they did, or go full race car and remove most of the firewall and have the pipes end up over the trans tunnel passenger seat area....

I prefer the sound of this healthy engine than the sound of something foreign to these cars....

It seems like a ridiculous amount of work for just a sound IMO and while I am guilty of this also it seems you constantly start new projects for your car but don't finish them, things like the cross ram intake, tri y headers, Corvette rear fascia and the recent wide body rear etc.
I know you have the skills to do this but I personally would like to see the finished product of some of these other projects before moving on to something else.

I understand the theoretical advantage of even exhaust pulses, and/or a flat-plane crank, but I still think the traditional cross-plane V-8 still sounds better. Flat-planes just sound too much like four-bangers to me.

Yea, it would be a ridiculous amount of work for a sound.
Can't argue that I'm famous for starting & not finishing some things, especially the complex ones. you nailed me there. But as stated, this is a consideration for a future project. FAR future, in place of the never test fitted & welded up tri-y headers. Not a whole lot of info out there about this & just looking ahead. No plans to actually mess with ANY time soon. This is just a research project right now.
ALSO, this could be great for someone doing a single turbo.
I did almost zero project work last year between home stuff & getting a hernia. Started back on body early this year & hadn't touched or even drove vehicle since March, Till last weekend. Got it out & getting back to bodywork . Hoping to at least get pass side metalwork done before stopping.
I do need both kind encouragement & just plain getting on my case to get things done as I got more ideas than time or health to carry them out.
Thanks for calling me out on that, but I promise, no pipework till after bodywork.
Should be posting bodywork after I get some English wheel work done.

if it's a far future plan then I would check back in a decade or 2 to see if there is any information then.....

Yup, I tried it; temporarily shelved the idea due to time and money. Here's the build thread: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/realoldspower/180-degree-headers-t9606.html
It's not just for sound. The theory is that the cylinder on its fill cycle (180 degrees opposite the cylinder that just fired) will pull in more fuel and air before the exhaust valve fully closes (I think). Ultimately, I screwed the design by putting the wrong cylinders in the wrong collector. My other downfall was trying to build them from scratch; I'm a pretty fair fabricator, but that was quite a lofty goal. I ended up buying a used set of 2" Kook's from Dr. Dan in FL to cut up. My design would include partial, slip fit collectors and v-bands on the crossover pipes for ease of trans, starter, oil change maintenance. I think my Olds would sound awesome with them, and I really like people scratching their head going "WTF was that?!?!?!"

If I am understanding this correctly wouldn't a 8 into 1 system have all primaries going into single collector and if so it seems like a completely different concept from the 180 degree header.
