why am I looking at mono amp? just trying to wrap my head around this all
i know its confusing but mono amps are meant for bass the circuitry and all that is very diffrent from none mono they are built to be more power efficent and turning the power they use into music not heat ( i started off with a 2 channel and used to use it for my subs and it used to get hot as **** and it had integrated fan now my mono runs a bit cooler with no integrated fan) theres a lot of factors to it i just cant remember many right now

It got hot because it was wired wrong. You had it wired at a low impedance, too low for the amp. You can manipulate the wiring, using parallel and series circuits too make the amp not overheat.

I agree with 86_olds a mono amp is best for subs. The Hifonics amp that was posted would do a good job. Just to throw in my 2 cents I would recommend a 4 channel amp for the other interior speakers for the best sound quality. Also my just be my opinion but i like to keep my amps the same. i don't know if it matters, but I like to just for appearance so when you open the trunk stuff matches and looks good, and I like to do the same with my interior speakers. Like I said don't really know if there is any quality reason i just like to keep things matched.

nah this was over a year ago had a single voice coil subwoofer wired at 4ohms to a 2channel amp its lowest stable impeadence was 2ohm so i was ok

Yea I asked pioneer today on my lunch break...and they said they don't make one at the moment that would suite my subs lol.
They did tell me pretty much the same thing, that I should look for some with 1200watt max and 700 RMS, those would be if I was getting a 2-channel amp though right?

No, I would think that they were talking about a mono amp as that is what I would recommend. You need a mono class D amp to power the subs. There is also a class A/B mono amp that is a cheaper cost but not as efficient A/B amps will create more heat. If you want an amp that will power those subs all day long with no problems go with a class D mono amp.

thats exactly what i said 🙂

If I go with the hifonics setup that 86olds recommended how do I need to wire them in? Also can you give me a crash course on how much to turn gain and such down?

Check out this link here are a few options.

I would go with the first option as a 1 ohm load. It is going to get the most out of that amp but you will have to be carefull on how much gain you give those speakers because that amp at full gain will kill those subs. So to answer your gain question you will have to just go by ear. I would start with the gain all the way down and start to work it up untill it sounds the best.
