Anyone in NJ have a 350/290 or 350/265?

Yea if you don’t really care about a lot of horsepower it’s a good engine , it’s not a turd, it has some power. It’s definitely better than a 305 mid 80s Camaro Lq4 engine. Like I said I don’t know what the gas mileage would be I never find time to drive mine, lol.

Does anyone in NJ have 1 of these motors and I could meet up with to see how it runs and get a realistic set of expectations before I order 1? I'll be happy to buy you a beer or lunch or both.
Thanks
Steven

After high school I bought an 89 Camaro RS with a 305, not the tuned port. IIRC it was rated at 190hp but with the 7000R4 and what ever the rear was, it was a fun car to drive daily with decent gas milage. That's all I'm really looking for for this project.

Go with the 290. Run Penngrade oil. Put a 3.42 rear gear in it. It won't suck.

Those TBI 305 Fbodys were a pretty fun car to drive. I'll repeat myself and say that gearing matters. My Cutlass has a lame 305 but it runs good and it's reliable. I replaced the 200c with a 200-4r and the 2.29s with 3.42s. Didn't touch the engine but it felt like a 100hp bolt-on. My final drive RPMs stayed the same so my MPGs stayed the same.

The guys who keep mentioning a Vortec aren't wrong. I'd probably swap in a used Vortec before I'd drop in a new 265/290.
