it's not that hard of a job if you have the tools available...the hardest part is finding the parts and transmission. There is enough of us who has done the conversion with different transmissions and set up so I don't think there is a question you can ask that someone won't have the answer to
If you go with a transmission like a T-56 or TKO 5 speed you'll be able to reuse a stock console after slight modification. No need to make a custom one unless you absolutely want to.
The T56 shifter in my '87 ended up dead center in the console. In fact, when it's in neutral, the shifter is exactly where the stock auto shifter would be when in Overdrive.
