Bad Battery? Alternator?

Car was already running trying to get the choke to operate correctly and at op temp and acting normally. It comes and goes. Haven't been driving it all that much, just within a mile or two of the house. I'll get a meter on it tomorrow if I can.

it sounds like the battery may be losing power with the cold weather and it's getting charged by the alternator so the problem goes away. If you have a charger I'd charge the battery overnight and when you start the car see if the problem is still there.
