Battery Relocation

I moved mine to the spare tire well. I smashed the bottom of the well flat and mounted the factory battery tray in it and used the factory style hold down also. I installed a battery cut off switch behind the license plate since I had a fuel cell and didn't need the filler neck there anymore. I used 0 gauge thick car audio cable for both positive and negative.

Have you been to the track with the car & made it past tech? My biggest concern is the tech process. My personal opinion is that the battery will now be contained in a SEALED trunk. its not going to fly around in the cockpit and possibly strike me in the event of a roll over or crash. But NHRA rules state it must be bolted to a frame rail. Which makes battery placement in the car a big pain, especially if it needs to be serviced. The whole goal of my car is to one day compete in hot rod drag week. That being said, and myself being Canadian I would hate to road trip my car across the states and be told that I can't run at a track because of a tech situation.

No the car never made it to the track. It's totalled now so it won't ever. When I build my next one I plan on getting rid of the spare tire well and mounting it on flat area taking it's place. The only rule I know is that you have to have some sort of fire wall seperating the cab from the trunk. I honestly don't think they would say anything if you don't have it strapped to the frame per the rules. Everytime I have been to the track they never inspected that deep. Now if you're racing every week competitively that's a different story....

Here is how i did mine...up on the lip in the trunk. Not sure it would relate because i dont plan on drag racing anymore but my trunk is sealed off now to the interior so im sure it would pass tech if i decided to play around.
Scott.

Yea i saw the thread on your car, its a shame was a really nice car! Also loved the Kilduff shifter! I know how it feels to have your pride and joy destroyed by someone else's ignorance. With my new car I don't think she will be seeing paint or body work until all the bugs are worked out and it does what I want it to do, I spent a rather large amount of money on the last car's body and paint and it just bit me in the *ss! This one might be ugly but I hope it's fast!!! I think I'm just going to keep it in the tire well where I have it and hope it is all good. I'll post a pic when I get home from work

Yea I learned a lot on mine in terms of what not to do on the next one. One of the first things I did was paint it and I regretted doing it before the engine, trans, rearend, and interior swaps. Makes everything a little harder trying not to lean on the car. Hopefully I will be picking up an 87 aerocoupe this friday. It will be a crazy winter trying to get it ready for spring. Luckily all I have to do is swap everything over.

Was never a huge fan of the aero coupes, but a couple have popped up around town that are done really nice and now they've grown on me. wishing I had heat in my garage so I could work on mine through the winter. I have my interior in my basement and I plan on cleaning that all up, wrapping all my exhaust etc, and getting it ready for the spring, and of coarse recouping the expenses from all the money I put into it this summer lol. Good luck with the new car!

I have one of these on the shelf in the trunk and use 4 gauge wires, it;s only 24 lbs and 6.5 wide x 7 long x 5 tall

A picture's worth a thousand words, but everyone like pictures anyway, here's my install, and for those who look close, yes the lightening holes were worth it.
