Im in the market for a 200r4 , where to go? who makes the best one, looking to support round 550hp, 87 ss monte carlo...
few have mentioned, extreme automatics, ckperformance, bowtie overdrive, monster transmission, and maddogg transmissions...

someone point me in the right direction thanks 8)

someone posted that question in a buick GN forum and here's the reply...

imho its a pretty stupid question. you should know by now that the best transmission builder in the whole country is chris at ck performance. please dont post another thread like that

No such thing as a stupid question - within reason.

Most of those guys that you mention do good work - I've used CK in the past with good luck..

Extreme Automatics price is tough to beat. Call or Email each one and see what they tell you. Torque is what kills, assuming you are running a sbc?

For someone to answer your question they would have had to use transmissions from:extreme automatics, ckperformance, bowtie overdrive, monster transmission, and maddogg transmissions...
I used parts from ck performance in my 200-4r and it works great. My 403 is about 400 hp and 435 lb torque. I spray a 150 hp shot and run the 1/4 mile.

I've had an Extreme Automatics 200-4R in my Monte SS for 4 years with absolutely no issues. Lonnie Deirs (owner/builder) will rebuild the trans for as long as I own it for $300 back to the way it was when I first had him build it. I don't think there are any other builders out there that will do that.

I bought a Stage 1 2004R from bowtie overdrives about 2 months ago. I'm really happy with it. The service was great, and the sales ppl were friendly. I also got a free t-shirt. But most importantly, I love the way the transmission feels. It shifts nice, and firm. It looks really good under my car, and I like that it has a drain plug in the pan for future services. I used trick shift fluid.

im leaning more towards the bowtie overdrive stage 3 trans yes its going behind a built sbc with 3:42 gears and yukon posi unit.
ck performance and extreme automatics seems more geared towards racing
