I agree on the Jegs piece. You can't beat that.

Anybody use the Jegs piece? I'm sure its Chinese, for that price.

What about the plates that let you keep the heat and delete the a/c? Any good ones out there?

I purchased it but haven't installed it yet. That is on my list of projects for next month along with swapping in a Vintage Air heat and defrost system.

It's not super sturdy but appears to definitely be up for the job.

I put one of the Vintage Air heater/defrost units in my Monte a few years ago.
It blows way more air than the factory piece ever did.The only downside is that unless you crack at least one window a little bit it will fog up inside after 5 or 10 minutes.Heres a picture of mine
Heres how I did the controls;

Thanks Guy! Yeah, I had planned to put the control knobs in the stock location. Glad to hear it moves air pretty well. Thanks for the tip on the fog. I expected at least a little bit of concessions on an aftermarket non-stop set-up.

At first I was a bit disappointed with how it fogged up inside and I contacted Vintage Air.
They said that these systems were intended for Jeeps and older cars that aren't as tight as ours are,therefor allowing a bit of fresh air to circulate,whereas ours don't.There is no provision for fresh air to enter the heater so it just recirculates air inside the car,thats why it fogs up.
But,all in all,that is a small price to pay,and its easy enough to open a window a tiny bit,I usually just crack the passenger side.
The upside is that even on low it blows more air than the stock unit did,and it weighs a fraction of what the old one did.That sucker is one huge piece of plastic,I couldn't believe how big it was !!

This is a poor picture but it gives you an idea how big the factory assembly is.

It seems there are many different manufacturers.

Which is best? Tell me why. I intend on painting it the same color as the firewall.

Thickness?

Which one to stay away from??

Thanks
