I'm going to do a SBC swap, and I was wondering what you guys think the best budget exhaust setup is. I am going with the flowtech headers, but don't know what to do after that. Also wondering what to do about the cross member, but definitely can't afford an aftermarket one. I guess theres one setup for duals at the junkyard, I don't know about the price for that though. I was thinking exit right before the rear tires on either side.

I don't know what all is needed....cats, muffler X or H pipe (do they accomplish the same thing?) I just read about notching the X member, thats a can-do. any tips or info is greatly appreciated, pics would be awesome as well.

I'm not sure. I'm going to have to look into that... I'm on my friends blackberry at school right now 😀

i tell everyone this but pypes exhaust has a real good setup. i bought the pypes x-pipe kit with street pro mufflers and they sound good...dont remember it being to expensive either

Yes, I think I do need emmissions. actually, I'm going to call the guy who is going to inspect it for me to get all details.

yeah, I need cats. they don't really have to be functional as you guys know.

Alright, back to the question. I'm (eventually) running blackjack headers (Thats the thought now) I'll need cats. What do you guys think is a good way to run the exhaust, but still cost efficient?

By reading, my thought was after the cats run a H or X pipe, mufflers, then exit before the rear tires. are there any cheap cats out there?

What your proposing is kinda tough. Do you have access to a welder? If so you will need to cut and notch the crossmember. That will be about the best way to do the eshaust cheap. Then get some cheap cats and weld the collectors to one end. Run a short amount of pipe to a set of glass packs the run some pipe 45'd out the side. It's a crud system but it will get you going. Or you can notch and weld the cross member, buy a set of cats and buy the cheap summit exhaust system for like 200 and taks it all to a exhaust shop and have the install it with the cats. This is a much better way of doing it. The best way would be to follow the above directions and replace the summit kit with the pypes kits.

From what you said, I reccomend this to save some cash on the cats. Just find a couple of cats from the junkyard that will fit your exhaust pipe size. Then cut them open and gut them out. That way it 'looks' like you have a set of cats, won't hurt your flow, and will save some big $$.
