The Olds 350 would be the easier swap and offers a much better selection of long-tube headers.
 
Yep, 350olds. By far the easiest in your situation. What transmission?
 
The A/C brackets need extended for a 455. Everything will transfer over to the Olds 350. The 76 and older motors are better motors. A stock 71 to 76 should bolt in and even use the factory CCC 307 parts if they are still on there. If it is the TH200C trans, it is on borrowed time. It is the 2004R Overdrive trans, add the big Transgo kit with the billet servo and use the green TV limit and set the shifts to the firmest. The dual feeding option requires much more disassembly so I didn't use it. That and a bottom feed filter setup will help it live behind extra torque and will shift much better. Also at least add true dual exhaust as it frees up 20 hp/tq over the awful cross over and single pipe set up.
