Pro-tip. Never ask one of the more popular g-body groups on facebook for advice***. Holy crap makes me grateful for the lot of you guys. Figured that would be a fun experiment and its over now.

OK So I figured I'd have a go at swapping out the vac. control switch on the AC controls. Then I find this, and I figure this probably has more to do with my no-cold-air issues than anything. Anyone know how this attaches to the top of the airbox, and if its a separate part or not (and has one lying around?) It's the lever that the temp control cable attaches to, and pivots so the hot/cold vent can work properly. I tried looking it up in the books but I don't have a decent enough drawing or pix to show how its supposed to go together. It almost looks like its supposed to be one piece that snaps into a hole in the top of the airbox.

I figure I can probably screw it down with some washers to make it work again, IF I can get something on top of the box where it is.... but that's pretty jerry rigged. If there's a right way to do it....

input appreciated. pix...

Thats the ticket. Now, do I get one or like 2 or 3 for when it happens again.... hmm.

You've got 3 cars correct.....all them are pretty much 30 years old.......just saying.

I could probably grab 3 or 4 GM ones this weekend...but then again they are 30 years old still.

OK so I know nothing about what's inside the air box assembly. I'm having hell trying to get that broken off piece out. Am I correct in assuming that I should be able to just push it down inside and it will just fall into the bottom of the box, or is there a little recess there, so if I push it down it becomes jammed in there and I'll never be able to use the new part I bought?? You can't see what you're doing, there's only like 1" of clearance on top of it, and enough of the piece broke off to keep it from just falling in, but not enough to grab hold of and twist out.... blah. I walked away before I broke something.

thought I'd taken some pics of when I took my a/c box apart a few years back, but couldn't find them on the 'puter or phone... IIRC, the blend door goes from top to bottom, and that attaches directly to the door. I may end up taking the box back out again soon, but not soon enough for what you're doing now...

Ack, this wasn't the part that required two people. My memory is getting as bad as a California psychiatrist's. This actually has a pin that must be positioned to fit into a clocked slot on top of the A/C housing because it has double tabs on the end of the pivot. THEN you plug in the clips and rod retainer. It's still a PITA but doesn't really take a long time.
