That's quite interesting I didn't know that. This 400 is practically new so it would be a waste to tear it apart for nothing but the block and heads though.

My boss also told me that you can use BBC rods with the stroker Pontiac cranks that are out there, which opens up more options for better rods is that true? Maybe I should build a Pontiac motor for my Firebird.

The thing is I still don't have the money to build a Pontiac motor. But I did see on Scat's website last night they have a 4 inch stroke crank for 400 blocks which I like the look of it keeps the motor over square with a .030 bore makes a 433 which sounds pretty sweet. Anyone know how far a 400 poncho can be punched out before you run into problems?

Check out some of the vendors. I'd rather deal with people that build Pontiacs rather than a general vendor. Not only can you use BBC rods, but you can buy the cranks with the journals already sized for them.

There's also a couple of excellent books out there if you're interested.

These guys (Jim & Rocky) both frequent Pontiac forums too. Nice to know they aren't bench racers.

Like G-body_vet said, the rods for most of the available stroker cranks are standard BBC. I will agree with you that it does cost more to build a Pontiac, but that's because it's not as popular and aftermarket parts are not as easily obtainable as Chevy stuff. Heads, if you go for other than stock, I think there are maybe 4 options out there, and they cost more than you're typical chevy heads.

I went about .030 on my 400 with the stroker crank to get 461. I think you can safely go to .060, but I did not want to test any limits and my block was pretty clean. I went with an RPM crank and Rods, and Icon pistons; all balanced by my machine shop.
